Thankfully, the U.S. Senate killed the anti-1st Amendment DISCLOSE Act yesterday. President Obama and his Democrat-controlled Congress wasted six months trying to enact this legislation aimed at stifling free speech rights instead of focusing on the economy. Liberal politicians more concerned with saving their own jobs than helping the American people find work. Priorities completely out of order!

We all know that the liberal media loves Barack Obama in an unhealthy way. Since 2004, there has been a different standard when it comes to how large portions of the media treat Obama. But today's story by the Daily Caller is eye opening and disgusting in that these people call themselves journalists.

In case you missed it, Jan Crawford at CBS News wrote this story about the Democrats missing the point on campaign spending:
"Democrats have spent a lot of time hammering the Roberts Court for its 5-4 decision to allow unlimited spending by corporations and unions on political advertising.
"Wasn't it unusual how they got to the point where they can make that decision, based on the facts?" Sen. Russell Feingold pressed Kagan. "It was unusual wasn't it?"
Kagan, of course, defended the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform law in the Court, in the case Citizens United v FEC."

Statement on White House Job Scandal From David Bossie,
Former Chief Investigator, House Committee on Government Reform and Oversight
“The recent admissions that the Obama Administration offered jobs to two individuals who were considering primary challenges to the White House's favored candidates is troubling. But what is even more troubling is that the Democrat-controlled Congress accepted the White House's explanation that 'nothing inappropriate happened' at face value. Congress is not a subsidiary of the Democratic Party - it is a co-equal branch of government with a duty to the American people to exercise its investigatory and oversight powers over the Executive branch. Congress can trust, but it also must verify.
“As a former Chief Investigator on the House Committee on Government Reform and Oversight during the Clinton Administration, I know first-hand that...

President Obama jumped into the Democrat campaign to limit the free speech rights of grassroots groups like Citizens United this weekend when he used his weekly radio address to support Sen. Chuck Schumer’s ‘reform’ bill.
What President Obama conveniently left out of his address, however, was any mention of Senator Schumer’s statement at the bill’s unveiling that he hoped that the bill would reduce the number of people who decide to participate in the political process – the very definition of a governmental attempt to limit free speech.
Since January, when the Supreme Court issued its resounding defense of the First Amendment, Democrats have been wailing that the ‘people’ will be drowned out by corporations in the political debate – including President Obama’s unprecedented and deceptive histrionics at the State of the Union.
But Citizens United is a ‘corporation’ funded by an average donation of around $50 from hundreds of thousands of concerned citizens...

The following is a statement from Citizens United President David N. Bossie:
“Mike Castle signing on to a bill does not bipartisanship make. A Republican running for a Senate seat held by a Democrat since the 1970s has plenty of political motivation to hold hands with the Democrat leadership whenever he gets a chance.
“But more importantly, ‘bipartisan’ and ‘constitutional’ are two very different things. McCain-Feingold was bipartisan and, as the Supreme Court made very clear in January, much of that law was unconstitutional. The right to free speech is a sacred right, and legislation for the explicit purpose of restricting the ability of Americans to speak out for or against their own elected representatives is too often nothing more than an unconstitutional incumbent protection act cloaked in the guise of ‘reform.’
“As Members of Congress look at this legislation they would do well to remember the oath they swore to ‘support and defend the...

The Supreme Court's decision to grant 1st Amendment rights to businesses of all sizes by giving them the ability to participate in our political process continues to drive President Obama and the rest of the liberals crazy.
The Hill newspaper is reporting that the Democrats are considering using the Citizens United case as a new litmus test for prospective nominees to the High Court.

Citizens United is proud to report that the CPAC sneak peeks of our two newest documentaries this past weekend were both smash hits! On Friday night at 8pm we screened Generation Zero, our controversial look at the current economic crisis in America. This was just the second time “Gen Zero” was shown before an audience, the first time being before a packed house at the National Tea Party Convention in Nashville, Tennessee on Friday, February 5th.
As the crowd gathered and the line formed at the CPAC Theater inside the Marriott Wardman Hotel in Northwest Washington, D.C., extra seats actually needed to be brought into the room to accommodate all those in attendance!
Andrew Breitbart provided a very special introduction, and told the audience that Gen Zero was a film every American needed to see and reported that Sean Hannity, after seeing the film, felt exactly the same. Hannity felt so strongly about the film that he dedicated the entire hour of his show on Tuesday,...

I thought it was important to write to let you know that I will be on Fox News Channel’s Hannity tonight (Tuesday 9pm EST) along with writer and director Stephen K. Bannon to discuss our groundbreaking new documentary, Generation Zero. We’ve now shown Generation Zero to jam packed rooms twice - at the recent Tea Party Convention in Nashville and this past weekend at CPAC in Washington, D.C. Simply put, this film is leaving audiences stunned and gaining more and more national attention each and every day. During his introduction of Generation Zero at CPAC, Andrew Breitbart said that this is a film every American must see!
Generation Zero will convince you that the current economic crisis is not a failure of capitalism, but a failure of culture. Generation Zero explores the cultural roots of the global financial meltdown - beginning with the narcissism of the 1960’s, spreading like a virus through the self-indulgent 90’s, and exploding across the world in the present...

The current economic crisis is not a failure of capitalism, but a failure of culture. What They’re Saying About The Citizens United v. FEC Supreme Court Decision
Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Senate Republican Leader:
“For too long, some in this country have been deprived of full participation in the political process. With today’s monumental decision, the Supreme Court took an important step in the direction of restoring the First Amendment rights of these groups by ruling that the Constitution protects their right to express themselves about political candidates and issues up until Election Day.”
Congressman John Boehner (R-OH), House Republican Leader:
“I think the Supreme Court decisions today are a big win for the First Amendment and a step in the right direction.”
Senator John Cornyn (R-TX), National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman:
“I am pleased that the Supreme Court has acted to protect the Constitution’s First Amendment rights of free speech and association. These are the bedrock principles...

Statement From David N. Bossie, President of Citizens United
“Today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision allowing Citizens United to air its documentary films and advertisements is a tremendous victory, not only for Citizens United but for every American who desires to participate in the political process.
“As our case amply demonstrates, campaign finance legislation over the last two decades has imposed, as Justice Kennedy put it, a “censorship . . . vast in its reach.” By overruling Austin v. Michigan Chamber of Commerce and striking down McCain-Feingold’s ban on so-called electioneering communications, the Supreme Court has made possible the participation in our political process that is the right of every American citizen – a right that had been severely curtailed under McCain-Feingold.
“This is a victory for Citizens United, but even more so for the First Amendment rights of all Americans. The fault line on this issue does not split liberals and...

Republican State Senator Scott Brown won statewide in Massachusetts with 52 percent of the vote on Tuesday. This is the same state in which Democrat Barack Obama won with 62 percent of the vote a little more than a year ago. This is where Republican John McCain won a mere 36 percent of the vote!
How did it all change so quickly?
Americans certainly wanted change in 2008. Unfortunately for the White House and its liberal followers around the country, it has taken only a year for many Americans to decide that they don’t like the change President Obama is selling one bit. Scott Brown won largely because he was against Barack Obama’s positions on health care, taxes, spending, and terrorism. The fact that putting Brown in office will effectively kill Obama’s monstrous health care overhaul speaks volumes about the mood of the country (and how quickly the mood can change). It also proves that Americans are impatient for effective change – not just any...

According to a recent report from ABC News, Democrats are already plotting strategy as to how to handle the ramifications of Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission should the court rule in our favor. Unfortunately for Democrats, Rep. Alan Grayson, who could politely be described as a “loose cannon,” has taken it upon himself to begin introducing reckless legislation even before the court rules.
While his bills are designed to circumvent any possible loosening of restrictions on the First Amendment that the Supreme Court may hand down, they are predictably one-sided. While many observers of the court believe that a decision in Citizens United’s favor would affect corporations and unions equally, Grayson’s hyperpartisanship got the best of him when crafting these bills and he carved out an exception for union spending. Of course, in the run-up to Tuesday’s special Senate election in Massachusetts, the SEIU has spent almost a million dollars on ads and is sending at...

Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV)should resign his leadership post immediately. The racially insensitive remarks Reid made concerning President Obama are evidence that he is not worthy of being the most powerful Senator in the country. The Democrat establishment's defense of Reid is a horrible double standard and nearly as bad as the comments themselves. Apparently, Democrats can tolerate this kind of reprehensible language if the person making the comments is a Democrat.

President Obama campaigned promising to have the most transparent Administration in history, going so far as to say that the negotiations over his health care proposal would be televised on C-SPAN. Today, even the totally non-partisan cable network called President Obama out on his broken promise:
Link
Now, Congressional leaders are proposing to do away with the formal process of going through the Confrence between the two Houses of Congress to avoid a contentious debate in the Senate.
Once again, President Obama has broken his promise of transparency, and the American people will be stuck with a bill that nobody has read that will affect a huge portion of the U.S. economy.

What an embarrassment for the Democrats! Today Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV), their leader in the U.S. Senate, compared having a robust and thorough debate on the proposed health care bill to the debates on slavery, women's suffrage, and civil rights.
Reid's irresponsible and pathetic argument is that the people who are wanting to slow down the march to socialized health care are the same people who were for slavery, against women's voting, and against civil rights for all Americans.
Believe it or not, he said it. And meant it!
Even the most radical left-wing blogger would have had a hard time saying this with a straight face. The only conclusion that can be drawn is that Reid is desperate and worried about his chances of getting the bill through the Senate. So what does he do? He plays the race card of all things. What a disgrace!
The truth is that leaders on both sides of the aisle have major reservations about this bill, but Harry Reid felt the...

Attorney General Holder’s announcement that the United States will try confessed 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (“KSM”), Waleed bin Attash, Ramzi Binalshibh, Mustafa Ahmad al-Hawsawi, and Ali Abd al-Aziz Ali in a federal civilian court for the attacks of September 11th, 2001, will easily go down as one of the most dangerous decisions of the Obama presidency.
For starters, the unfortunate fact that the commander-in-chief didn’t make this announcement himself, and decided it should wait until he was overseas shows a lack of sensitivity to everyone affected by the events of September 11, 2001. It also suggests that successfully prosecuting the War on Terror (now also known as an “Overseas Contingency Operation”) is not something Mr. Obama cares to focus his efforts on. The timing of this announcement was amateur hour on display, and the sorry attempt to make this Eric Holder’s decision alone is an outrage. Make no mistake; the buck will stop in the Oval Office for...

Senator Kit Bond (R-MO):
"The Obama Justice Department has prioritized political correctness over protecting the citizens of this country."
Senator Joe Lieberman (I-CT):
"The terrorists who planned, participated in, and aided the September 11, 2001 attacks are war criminals, not common criminals. Not only are these individuals not common criminals but war criminals, they are also not American citizens entitled to all the constitutional rights American citizens have in our federal courts. The individuals accused of committing these heinous, cowardly acts of intentionally targeting unsuspecting, defenseless civilians should therefore be tried by military commission rather than in civilian courts in the United States."
Senator Jim Webb (D-VA):
"It will be disruptive, costly, and potentially counterproductive to try them as criminals in our civilian courts."

Many great leaders and millions and millions of people yearning for freedom and basic human rights were responsible for the fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989. The oppression of Soviet Communism could no longer put down what the people truly wanted: their freedom.
You can't talk about the fall of The Wall unless you talk about Pope John Paul II, Margaret Thatcher, Vaclav Havel, Lech Walesa, "Mr. Gorbachev", and, of course, President Reagan. The very fact that these leaders were all in power at this crucial moment in history is nothing short of providential.
On this important anniversary, we must always remember that November day in which human freedom once again beat back totalitarianism. However, we must never forget that the fall of The Wall in 1989 was not as certain as it might appear today. It took strength, determination, and the courage to say and do the difficult, and seemingly impossible things. Who knows where we would be today without...

How pathetic. A piece in today's Washington Post on Dede Scozzafava tells the story of her betrayal to the entire Republican Party and classifies it as Republican dysfunction. It serves a window into the Washington Post's bias in storytelling, but more importantly as a window into Scozzafava's soul. Or, lack of one.
The people of New York's 23rd Congressional district should be glad she didn't get elected, Republican, Conservative and Democrat alike. For this political hack showed her true colors and they are neither Conservative or Republican. She embarrassed all those who supported her and the Republican leadership of New York, which she was a part of until yesterday. Actions have consequences in life and she should be made aware of that. So, for my part, I am sending her a change of party registration card in the mail. Good riddance, Brutus.

It’s official! Liberals needed just 10 months in power for Americans to once again reject their irresponsible agenda.
In the Commonwealth of Virginia, statewide Conservative candidates for Governor, Lt. Governor, and Attorney General won by astonishing margins. Bob McDonnell won by 18 points (59 - 41); Bill Bolling by 12 points (56 - 44); and Ken Cuccinelli by 15 points (57 - 42). President Obama’s popularity in Virginia in 2008 was nowhere to be found in 2009.
Down the ballot, Barbara Comstock won a consequential race in Virginia House of Delegates District 34, running on a common sense Conservative platform. According to The Washington Post: “Comstock’s apparent victory would be a huge boost for Republicans. Since Vanderhye’s election in 2007, there has been no elected GOP state official representing an area that includes inner-Beltway neighborhoods.” President Obama carried Comstock’s district with 53 percent of the vote just a year ago!

Another day, another broken promise by President Obama. Throughout the presidential campaign and during his 15 minutes in the U.S. Senate, President Obama talked non-stop about how he would be the toughest chief executive on ethics yet. It was all part of his "change you can believe in" rhetoric. Mr. Obama bragged that he was going to clean up D.C. because he would be doing things differently. Well, it was all words. As it turns out, the President is a typical politician after all - willing to say or do anything to get elected.
Washington woke up today to a detailed report by The Washington Times that exposes the Obama White House-DNC program to grant White House access to big campaign contributors.
According to The Times:
"During his first nine months in office, President Obama has quietly rewarded scores of top Democratic donors with VIP access to the White House, private briefings with administration advisers and invitations to important speeches and...

“To accept Senators McCain and Feingold’s remarks on the Senate floor yesterday at face value would require an objective listener to turn a blind eye to the facts at hand. Senator Feingold took an alarmist tone, warning that elections would somehow turn into corporate sponsored events like a NASCAR race. But that statement belies a willful ignorance of elections, such as the one about to take place in Virginia, in which corporate spending is legal and no allegations of any impropriety have been made.
“Senator McCain’s umbrage at Justice Scalia’s observation that Congress is self-interested, and that his comment in that regard is ‘an affront to the thousands of good, decent, honorable men and women who have served this nation in these halls’ similarly defies reason and logic. If a simple statement by a Justice of the Supreme Court can impugn the integrity of every man and woman who has served in Congress, what of a law that, at its essence, is a testament to Senators...

President Obama is finally heading back to the Commonwealth of Virginia on October 27, 2009, to campaign for Democrat gubernatorial nominee, Creigh Deeds. Just a week before the election, the President and his advisers have decided that showing up for Deeds, albeit way too late, is better than giving him the cold shoulder. But at this point, will it do more harm than good?
An average of polls taken for the Virginia Governor’s race show that Bob McDonnell, the Republican nominee, is leading Deeds by about 10 percentage points. Although Mr. Obama carried Virginia in the presidential contest last November, much has happened since. For one, the President now has a record. His partisan stimulus bill has not worked, and his health care plan is an unacceptable experiment in the midst of our current economic situation. Most damaging is that many Americans have decided that Mr. Obama is substantially more liberal than he let on during the campaign. This is exactly the reason...

Apparently it takes tax and spend liberals to support a tax and spend liberal. President Obama and Vice President Biden are heading to New Jersey this week to stump for Governor Jon Corzine. It’s no secret that Jon Corzine’s term as Governor of the Garden State has been an absolute failure. No politician in their right mind could promote such an abysmal record. According to New York magazine, “even Democrats acknowledge Corzine has been a major disappointment as Governor.” That isn’t stopping Obama and Biden from helping their favorite Wall Street tycoon.
In his four years as Governor, Corzine has watched New Jersey’s unemployment rate skyrocket from 4.8 percent to 9.8 percent (an over 100% increase!!!). According to The Tax Foundation, Corzine has allowed New Jersey to become the “Least Business-Friendly State in 2009”, based upon an index comparing taxes that affect business. Corzine has done nothing to ease New Jersey’s overall state/local tax burden, which is the...

The citation for President Obama's Nobel Peace Prize reads, in part, “His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population."
Is that what leadership is? Taking a poll and determining what everybody else believes before making a decision or taking action? Here in America, that's what is called following the pack. Leadership means taking risks, guiding (not following) the pack, and standing up for what you believe in the face of adversity (or what others might say).
It shouldn't come as any shock that the same people who gave Jimmy Carter the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in North Korea (which led directly to the Dear Leader's nuclear reactor), would award the same prize to Barack Obama who is idly standing by while Iran and North Korea develop nuclear weapons and delivery devices to terrorize the world.
We can only hope that...

President Obama is on his way back from Denmark and the news is out that despite his presidential pitch, the IOC did not give Chicago the Olympics.
While Mr. Obama focused on sports, Americans woke up to reports that our unemployment rate continued to rise to 9.8%. This is the highest unemployment rate since June of 1983. Hardworking American taxpayers continue to scratch their heads, as it appears that the President and his administration continue to focus on everything under the sun except the economy and jobs!
This is nothing more than another rookie mistake by our inexperienced President. With so many enormous problems at home and abroad, why would Mr. Obama involve himself with the Olympics? And from a political stand point, why set yourself up for failure by rolling the dice with the IOC?
I've said it before and I'll say it again: please focus on the economy and national security, Mr. President.

Over the last month, a remarkable trend has developed in President Obama’s foreign policy that has gone little noticed due to the health care debate. Interestingly, though perhaps not surprisingly, the shift towards appeasement in President Obama’s foreign policy mirrors his problems in the health care debate in many ways.
Democrats in Washington have spent the better part of the last six months talking in circles about how to reform the healthcare system, while most of the country solidified in opposition to the unaffordable plan. Despite six months of negotiation, argument, and recrimination, it appears that the chances of passing a government run public insurance option, once a centerpiece of the reform package, have taken a huge hit and don’t seem to be recovering any time soon. Considering the jubilation that greeted his inauguration among Washington Democrats and the seemingly limitless grassroots power that he corralled during the campaign, how is it possible that...

I am delighted to announce that this Friday, September 25, 2009, Rediscovering God In America II: Our Heritage, is set for its world premiere at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center in Washington, D.C.!
Hosted by Newt and Callista Gingrich, Rediscovering God In America II: Our Heritage, is the highly-anticipated sequel to 2007’s critically acclaimed Rediscovering God In America. Part two explores topics such as the Jamestown settlement, Mayflower Compact, William Penn's Charter of Privileges, Samuel Adams' role in the American Revolution, The First Continental Congress, the correspondence between John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, and President Lincoln's Gettysburg Address.
Rediscovering God In America II: Our Heritage was written and directed by Kevin Knoblock, and shot in high definition at historic locations including Cape Henry, VA; Cemetery Ridge in Gettysburg; Christ Church in Philadelphia; and the Old South Meeting House in Boston, just to name a few.

It's been two weeks since I called for Rep. Charlie Rangel's (D-NY) resignation. I said that if Speaker Pelosi didn't handle the Rangel situation appropriately, her credibility in dealing with unethical behavior would be destroyed. In 2006, the Democrats promised to clean things up if given the chance. They were given the chance and have failed miserably.
To date, Speaker Pelosi has taken no action with regard to Rep. Rangel, instead electing to waste time on a vote that will call out Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) for speaking out of turn last week.
Not only is this hypocritical, it's taking time away from the health care debate. If the health care bill fails, how will Nancy Pelosi explain that she thought voting on Joe Wilson was more important?

There's a blog by Mark McKinnon making its way around the internet in which he attacks Rep. Joe Wilson.
Apparently, McKinnon feels like being a Republican today. Here's part of McKinnon's disingenuous attack:
"I’m a Republican, but I’d rather have a Democrat in Congress who I may disagree with but who has some fundamental character and decency which Wilson clearly lacks."
McKinnon is going to support Wilson's Democrat opponent.
This shouldn't be a shocker to anyone who has paid attention to politics lately.
While trumpeting that he's a Republican, McKinnon fails to mention he was a Democrat until 10 years ago.
According to Time magazine in 1999:
"Like many other Democrats, Mark McKinnon for a long time had little use for George W. Bush. A media consultant based in Austin, Texas, McKinnon had toiled for Democratic candidates for years, and once he nearly took a job with Bill Clinton."
If I'm Wilson's opponent, I'd be...

Citizens United will never forget the horrific events of September 11, 2001. We will never forget the 3,000 innocent people who lost their lives on that day. We will never forget the heroes that emerged on that day.
Eight years later, it is critically important to remember our brave troops that are still fighting our enemies and putting their lives on the line in the name of freedom.
Let's also remember that there have been no attacks on U.S. soil since that day, and that is because of the bold policies that were put in place to keep us safe.
May God Bless America.

Last night, President Obama promised not to sign any health reform bill that added to the deficit:
"Here's what you need to know. First, I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits – either now or in the future. Period."
Do any reasonable Americans actually believe that a massive health care overhaul won't add to the deficit?
Has an enormous government program such as this ever come in under budget? This firm pledge makes it clear that President Obama isn't being genuine about his deficit rhetoric. If he was, he couldn't possibly sign the bill!
At the end of the day, this bill is going to cost an unprecedented amount of money, and add an exorbitant amount to the already out of control deficit. And, as we all know, if a bill gets out of Congress, the President will sign it no matter what.
The Associated Press did a great fact check on the President's deficit statement. Here it is, in pertinent part:
"President...

Starting today, September 1, 2009, this space will be counting the days it takes House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to ask Way and Means Chairman Rep. Charlie Rangel to step down.
When the Dems took over Congress in 2006, they ran against a culture of corruption. Now, just a couple years later, they have broken their promise to clean things up.
Congressman Rangel controls tax and finance policy in the United States of America. Yet he can't seem to tell the truth on his own financial disclosure forms. Hardworking American taxpayers deserve better from the people who determine our tax code.
The Buffalo News editorial calling for Rangel's resignation summed the situation up perfectly:
"Now, it gets worse. Newly-filed disclosures show that Rangel failed to report at least half a million dollars in assets in 2007. They also show that his net worth is between $1 million and $2.5 million, or about twice what he claimed in 2008."
Speaker Pelosi,...

I want to a take some time to remember my friend, Robert D. Novak, who passed away this morning after a year-long battle with brain cancer at the age of 78.
Since the beginning of my career in government and politics, as a fellow Conservative, I watched, read, and listened to what Bob had to say very closely.
Through the years, I was glad to hear from Bob when we were working on overlapping issues. I found him to be tough, fair, and honest. Simply stated, he was the best in the business for more than a half a century.
In recent years, Bob always found time in his busy schedule to sit for interviews for my films, something he did out of the kindness of his heart. Of course, Bob had something new and interesting to share every time.
In good times and in bad, Bob remained a loyal and close friend, and I'll never forget him. My heart goes out to his family and may he rest in peace.

In a move that reeks of desperation and hyper-partisanship, the Obama White House has asked supporters to send any negative information they find on the web about the health care bill to a White House email account.
Obama Land likes to call it "disinformation." I wonder what they would label as disinformation? Is it information they don't agree with? Is it information asking questions about what the irresponsible bill would do to the budget deficit? Is it information questioning if this plan would actually work effectively?
This is all about the 1st Amendment. When the White House sends signals that they might be keeping tabs on people who disagree with them, those people are less likely to speak their minds and exercise their right to free speech. Having robust debates about important issues is what makes America great. The Obama White House should not be intimidating people out of speaking their minds.
Senator Cornyn is right to inquire about this...

Many people are perplexed as to why President Obama's poll numbers are heading South. They wonder why this young, charismatic leader can't keep his numbers up.
Here's the reality - and I've been saying this since November: when you strip away the youth and charisma, all that's left are old, failed Democrat welfare state ideas and programs.
The grassroots liberals can't understand it. Obama, Pelosi, and Reid can't understand it. And why would they? These are their beliefs. More government, more spending, and less control for families and individuals.
These are the very policies that a vast majority of the American public looked at and rejected long ago.
Most Americans want freedom. This means less taxes and less regulation. They want government to do a few things well, not many things poorly. One of the things our federal government needs to do well is protect the American people through a robust national defense and a strong foreign policy. ...

Vice President Biden said with a straight face recently that he agrees with President Obama in that if the U.S. Government doesn't spend more money, the country will go bankrupt. Yes, you read that correctly.
How out of touch are Barack Obama and Joe Biden? While most hardworking American taxpayers look for ways to cut their budgets to avoid bankruptcy, Obama-Biden think spending MORE is the way to avoid bankruptcy.
Here is the Vice President's quote from CNSNews.com:
“Now, people when I say that look at me and say, ‘What are you talking about, Joe? You’re telling me we have to go spend money to keep from going bankrupt?’” Biden said. “The answer is yes, that's what I’m telling you.”
Vice President Biden, you can keep telling us that, but we don't have to believe you.

Congressman Dan Boren, a centrist Democrat from Oklahoma, must be echoing the sentiments of many independents and moderates around the country who feel President Obama is much more liberal and partisan than he let on during the campaign. According to Politico, Boren would much prefer the governing style of someone who is truly a New Democrat, someone like Bill Clinton.
Due to his big government, ultra-liberal programs, polls have started to indicate that moderates and independents are worried about the Obama agenda.
According to Rep. Boren (D-OK) in Politico:
“Bill Clinton won our district. A lot of people don’t remember that, but he, in 1996, carried this district. I think if you have someone who governs from the middle, who’s pragmatic, who works with both parties. President Obama talks a lot about bipartisanship. If you look at some of the legislation, he may have one or two Republicans.”
Note to Rep. Boren, be careful about speaking your...

The U.S. House and Senate recently passed identical resolutions stating the following:
"The Architect of the Capitol shall engrave the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and the National Motto of `In God we trust' in the Capitol Visitor Center."
The Senate resolution passed unanimously and the House vote was 410-8. What's so controversial about this, you ask?
Believe it or not, a liberal atheist group in Wisconsin has filed a lawsuit in federal court to make sure that this never happens, despite the nearly unanimous votes in Congress!
Thanks to Reps. Steve King and Dan Lungren for getting it exactly right:
"'This lawsuit is another attempt by liberal activists to rewrite history and deny that America's Judeo-Christian heritage is an essential foundation stone of our great nation,' said Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa."
"Rep. Daniel Lungren, R-Calif., said he was expecting a lawsuit but called the claims 'patently absurd.'"

The Obama Administration is continuing to disarm in the War on Terror, or the "Overseas Contingency Operation" as they choose to call it.
During a recent U.S. Senate hearing, Obama DOJ officials confirmed that terrorists captured on the battlefield have rights and protections under the U.S. Constitution!
Moves such as this are making Americans less safe!
President Obama is making national security decisions as if it's still September 10, 2001. What in the world is he thinking?

This weekend’s editorial in The New York Times regarding Citizens United’s First Amendment case at the Supreme Court is baffling. I don’t generally expect the New York Times to agree with much of anything that we do (usually, that’s how I know we’re doing something right), but this one is different. In Citizens United v. FEC, we’re fighting to roll back restrictions on free speech, a goal that all of us on the left and the right and, one would think, an organization like Times who depends on the First Amendment, could agree with.
This is not a left or right issue – we’re fighting for the rights of everyone from Michael Moore to Citizens United Productions and everywhere inbetween. People have a right to be heard and the Supreme Court now has the opportunity to correct mistakes that have been in place for the better part of 20 years.

As the nation's unemployment rate jumped to 9.5 percent today, President Obama continued to focus on other items on his irresponsible, ultra-liberal agenda.
Instead of keeping his Administration and Congress focused on jobs and the economy, the President is instead pushing his $1.6 trillion health care bill and his cap and trade energy tax plan.
The President's $787 billion "stimulus" spending bill, the one he said we couldn't survive without, is not helping Americans find work. Mr. Obama should be making the necessary adjustments to help the economy, not taking his eye off the ball by focusing on his liberal wish list.
It's the economy, stupid!

Mark Sanford should resign as Governor of South Carolina. He lied to his wife, his children, his staff, and his constituents. He is one of only 50 chief executives in this country and he thought it was no big deal to go AWOL on 4.3 million people for almost a week. This amounts to a dereliction of duty, a breach of the public trust, and complete selfishness.
One of the central tenets of Conservatism is strong family values. You can't just talk about them - you have to practice them. That is what makes the man. Committing this deceitful act over Father's Day makes this episode that much more awful.
Does anyone want a Governor (and supposed role model) who would do that to his own family?
Mark Sanford should do the unselfish thing now and step down immediately.

Ahmed Ghailani is having a good day today. President Obama just gave the al-Qaida terrorist a huge break. It just may be the break he's been waiting for. President Obama made the reckless decision to try Ghailani in a civilian court instead of a military tribunal where he belongs.
Ghailani now knows he has a much greater chance to walk on a technicality. If this tragedy occurs, he will stroll out of federal court in New York City a freeman, just a short walk from Ground Zero.
Why is President Obama rolling the dice with our security?
This terrorist helped bomb our embassies in Africa in 1998, trained other terrorists, and became one of Osama Bin Laden's bodyguards.
Thankfully, he was picked up in Pakistan in 2004 as a "high value" target. This man hates America and wants to kill more Americans. Why put him in a position to do so? The United States' policy should be to get terrorists off our streets, not the opposite.

President Obama didn’t utter the words terror or terrorism in the speech. Instead, the President used the words extremism and extremists more than ten times – clearly trying to articulate a shift that won't be appreciated anyway.
What happened on September 11, 2001 was a brutal act of terrorism and attempting to brand it as something else is disrespectful to those affected.
The speech was entirely too apologetic. When will a Muslim leader or leaders come to America and send the message that the Muslim world has many enormous problems that it genuinely wants to fix in the name of international peace and human rights?
President Obama assured the Muslim world that the United States will not torture and that he is committed to closing the detention facility as Guantanamo Bay. This was one of the speech’s best applause lines. But what about torture in the Muslim world? President Obama failed to mention it. And what does the Muslim world want us to...

A new USA Today/Gallup Poll indicates that Americans want the GITMO detention facility to stay open. This information should give President Obama pause; U.S. national security is more important than the wishes of his left-wing base and the ACLU.
According to USA Today: "In the survey, Americans were inclined to accept the argument by Cheney and former president George W. Bush that the detention center had made the United States safer. By 40%-18%, they said the prison had strengthened national security rather than weakened it. Those who want the prison to remain open feel more strongly on the subject that those who want to close it. A 54% majority of those polled say the prison shouldn't be closed, and that they'll be upset if the administration moves forward to close it."
This poll will undoubtedly upset the liberal media and will most likely be conveniently overlooked.

Citizens United Productions is proud to announce that its latest documentary, "Perfect Valor," narrated by Senator Fred Thompson, has won the prestigious “Best Feature Documentary” award at the 2009 GI Film Festival in Washington, DC.
Past winners of the GI Film Festival’s “Best Feature Documentary” award include Academy Award finalist "Operation Homecoming" in 2007 and "Brothers At War," currently in theatrical release, in 2008.
"Perfect Valor¸" Citizens United Productions’ 11th feature documentary, is the story of Operation Phantom Fury, the 2004 battle for the control of Fallujah. Throughout this operation, American troops battled through a city of enemy insurgents, fighting house to house and street to street to seize control of the most dangerous city in the world.
Narrator Fred Thompson tells of the high price paid by U.S. forces and the legacy of that campaign as seen through the eyes of the men and women who were there, risking their lives in...

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi put her Speakership in serious jeopardy today as she labeled the hardworking professionals at the Central Intelligence Agency a bunch of liars.
Instead of coming clean with the American people and admitting that she knew about waterboarding years ago and didn't do anything about it, Pelosi decided to blame it all on the CIA.
The Speaker, who is 3rd in line to be President, said this about the CIA today: 'So yes, I’m saying that the CIA was misleading the Congress.' It isn't surprising that a San Francisco liberal would disrespect the intelligence community, but it certainly reinforces the argument that Democrats aren't serious about national security.
Does President Obama feel the same way about the CIA? I wonder if the liberal media will bother to ask.

The LA Times recently reported that the Obama Administration is considering releasing a group of Chinese Muslims, currently imprisoned at GITMO, into the Washington, D.C. suburbs of Northern Virginia! Is this the way President Obama is going to thank his supporters in the Commonwealth of VA for their critical electoral votes?
The prisoners in question got picked up in Pakistan in 2002. Prior to that they received weapons training in Afghanistan. Do peaceful people go to Afghanistan for weapons training? Why take the risk, Mr. President?
This entire process has become an ordeal thanks to President Obama's irresponsible decision to close GITMO before having a plan for what to do with the prisoners.
The Chinese Government has stated that they would accept these prisoners. Why in the world wouldn't we take them up on this most gracious offer? Again, why take the risk? Leading by example in hopes that other countries will follow suit is not the answer....

Just a week after ducking the Pennsylvania voters who have sent him to the Senate for the last 30 years, karma caught up with Arlen Specter. Despite promises from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid that Specter could retain his seniority if he betrayed his party, Specter will join the Democratic caucus as if he were a lowly freshman senator. Potentially, that means that even Senator Roland Burris (of Blagojevich infamy) will have a better office, a better parking spot, a better . . . well, you get the idea.
This whole “seniority” issue may seem trivial, but let me assure you that to the Senators, who often act like petulant schoolchildren fighting over who gets to be first in line, take the matter very seriously. In a practical sense, the loss of seniority means that Specter will lose his high-ranking spot on the Appropriations Committee which allowed him to control a significant sum of taxpayer dollars.
Perhaps even more damaging to his pride, Specter, a...

I was against the stimulus bill from the beginning. Lack of oversight and transparency was just one of the reasons. USA Today is reporting today that Americans will not be able to track how the government is spending stimulus bill funds for months. This is unfortunate because President Obama promised there would be adequate transparency as a reason to support the bill. I fear that this is only the beginning of the broken promises associated with this poorly thought out bill. The waste, fraud, and abuse is going to be unprecedented. Taxpayers deserve better from their elected officials. Democrat Members of Congress will pay a price at the ballot box in 2010 for rushing this bill through without reading it.

Over the weekend, a panel of Republican “experts” came together in Virginia to discuss the future of the Republican party. The upshot? Well, according to former Governor Jeb Bush, the party needs to forget about Ronald Reagan, “not be nostalgic” about the past, and “upgrade” its message.
What Jeb Bush is forgetting is that under his brother’s leadership over the last eight years, the Republican Party supported the largest expansion of government in fifty years. Instead of talking about abolishing the Department of Education like Ronald Reagan did, the first major initiative of the last administration was to impose an unprecedented degree of federal control over local schools. Instead of talking about getting people off of welfare like Ronald Reagan did, the Republican Party supported an unaffordable expansion of Medicare.
Gov. Bush is missing the point. We’re not looking for nostalgia, we’re looking for leadership from a principled conservative. We...

The Citizens United family is mourning the loss of Secretary Jack Kemp, who died Saturday at the age of 73.
My production team interviewed Jack Kemp on March 18, 2008 for our recent documentary on Ronald Reagan. What struck me about the session, is that it wasn't just an interview about President Reagan. Secretary Kemp turned it into a history lesson for everyone in the room. Not only did Secretary Kemp give us dozens of stories about his relationship with President Reagan, he also gave us a lesson on everything from post-Civil War reconstruction to the 2008 president contest. We all walked away from the interview - everyone from the director to the production assistants - learning something about U.S. history that we didn't previously know.
The interview also reminded me of Jack Kemp's love of freedom. Secretary Kemp's belief that freedom - freedom in the form of lower taxes, less regulation, and less government - encourages creativity, entrepreneurship, and...

I attended the "New York City Tax Day Tea Party" yesterday and I'm glad to report it was a huge success!
NYC police estimated that 12,500 patriotic Americans showed up at City Hall after work to remind President Obama that they do not support his agenda of out of control spending, taxes, deficits, and debt.
Citizens United was proud to be a sponsor of the event and I hope that the message got through loud and clear:
Never-ending bailouts, trillions in new spending, and higher taxes is not the answer! Speaker Newt Gingrich was the keynote speaker at the event and he compared the event's coordinators as modern-day versions of Samuel Adams and the Sons of Liberty!
I couldn't agree more with the Speaker. It's just as patriotic to oppose higher taxes in New York City in 2009 as it was in Boston in 1773!

We live in a dangerous world, everyone agrees on that. We are at war in Iraq and Afghanistan. North Korea is testing missiles. We have enemies who are known and unknown. Is it smart for the Obama Administration to be cutting missile defense programs now, when so many of our adversaries are simultaneously beefing up their own arsenals? In this day and age, when a bi-partisan group of U.S. Senators decide to write a letter urging the President to stop the cuts, chances are they have it right.

Fox News is reporting that a hero from the Iraq War is being denied entry into the U.S. by the State Department!
President Obama and Secretary Clinton need to take action immediately!
Here's an excerpt:
"An Iraqi translator who has earned commendations for risking his life repeatedly to save the lives of many American soldiers in combat has been denied a visa to live in the United States because of nonviolent actions he took to overthrow Saddam Hussein — at the same time the U.S. government was calling for regime change in Iraq.
Jasim, whose name is being withheld for his safety, has received strong support from the U.S. military, and the Department of Homeland Security approved his application for a visa. But the State Department has denied Jasim a visa because he was arrested in 1996 for actions against the Saddam dictatorship.
Some of Jasim's supporters, however, believe the real reason he's been denied a visa is that he has become a "nuisance" to State...

If you're a Democrat who can pay taxes accurately and on time, please raise your hand. President Obama may have a job for you! It was reported last night that Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius, President Obama's 2nd pick for HHS Secretary (Tom Daschle withdrew because of tax problems), has had her own problems paying her taxes accurately. Sebelius recently paid some $8,000 in back taxes.
The American people ought to be concerned that President Obama doesn't see this as an important issue, because he keeps picking folks who don't pay their taxes.
What's worse is that the Democrat-controlled U.S. Senate continues to confirm these nominees. This is a bad precedent that will come back to haunt the Dems.
For those who lost count, Gov. Sebelius is the 6th Obama nominee with tax "issues." Others are Sen. Tom Daschle (withdrew), Tim Geithner (confirmed, now overseeing IRS), Nancy Killefer (withdrew), Rep. Hilda Solis(husband's taxes, confirmed), and Mayor Ron Kirk...

The Chicago Tribune has an in depth story out today on White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel's questionable tenure on the board of Freddie Mac. Emanuel is clearly not the right person to be advising President Obama on regulating our financial institutions. Should he recuse himself from these matters? Isn't there a credibility gap at the White House if he doesn't?
Here is a portion of the Tribune story:
"Before its portfolio of bad loans helped trigger the current housing crisis, mortgage giant Freddie Mac was the focus of a major accounting scandal that led to a management shake-up, huge fines and scalding condemnation of passive directors by a top federal regulator.
One of those allegedly asleep-at-the-switch board members was Chicago's Rahm Emanuel - now chief of staff to President Barack Obama - who made at least $320,000 for a 14-month stint at Freddie Mac that required little effort.
As gatekeeper to Obama, Emanuel now...

President Obama made no secret during the 2008 presidential campaign that he was going to change U.S. policy concerning Iran if elected. In 2007, he even said he would negotiate with the Iranians without preconditions, much to the dismay of then rival Hillary Clinton.
Hillary Clinton’s central argument against this approach remains salient: if a President of the United States was to directly reach out to Iran’s leaders, they would automatically give the regime the credibility they so desperately covet and most certainly do not deserve.
Last Friday, President Obama finally followed through on one of his campaign promises: he released a videotaped message encouraging better relations between the U.S. and Iran. Quite predictably, it took only a day for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to use President Obama’s statement to his advantage by basically saying, “should you change, our behavior will change too.” So now, as far as the world can tell, Iran is telling the U.S....

WH Press Secretary Robert Gibbs' answer yesterday to a question about Vice President Cheney's criticism of President Obama's early moves on national security and domestic policy is telling for two reasons. One: The Obama Administration is not concerned with bi-partisanship, much less post-partisanship. The Obama White House has clearly made the decision to let the division continue. Mr. Cheney made two substantive charges, why not just answer on the merits? Two: After Gibbs' small response, the laughter coming from the press gallery tells you all you need to know about the liberal media and their continued support of Mr. Obama. Some of the laughing "journalists" must be lining up for jobs in the Administration. Here is the exchange:
Question: "One quick followup: Former Vice President Cheney was on State of the Union yesterday. He had a lot - a lot of criticism of this White House.
"To boil it down, on national security, he said the president's policies...

Everyone in the Citizens United family is mourning the passing of Ron Silver, who died yesterday at the age of 62 after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Silver was an amazingly talented, Tony award-winning actor, as well as a passionate, dedicated activist. I had the privilege of working with Ron on a documentary we collaborated on in 2005, entitled Broken Promises: The United Nations At 60 (Mr. Silver Co-Produced and Narrated The Project).
The film was the recipient of the 2005 WorldFest-Houston Special Jury Remi Prize. Working with the legendary Ron Silver was the thrill of a lifetime; I never stopped listening and learning from everything that Ron offered. Rest in peace friend, you will be missed.

Politico has a story posted this morning that caught my eye for obvious reasons. It's entitled,"Obama: 'I Am A New Democrat'"!?!?! No, that isn't a typo. President Obama actually said this yesterday at the White House. Let's get something straight: Barack Obama is not a New Democrat. He's about as close to an FDR/LBJ welfare state Democrat as you can get. I wonder if the press bothers to ask him about this horribly disingenuous statement? Tell the truth Mr. President, you are a proud, big government liberal who owns a $787 "stimulus" bill that isn't working and you're trying to move to the center by using tired political rhetoric. Nice try!

The U.S. Senate is in the process of voting on amendments on the $410 billion omnibus spending bill. This is the bill that's filled up with 9,000 of the same wasteful pork projects that President Obama campaigned against. However, now that Obama is the President, he has indicated that he will sign this horribly wasteful bill, despite his previous statements about earmarks and out of control spending. It's a bad decision that Mr. Obama will pay a political price for in November 2010.
Unfortunately, several Republican Senators are responsible for some of the earmarks in the bill, and the White House and Democrats on the Hill are using that as push back. Any Republican Senators that have pork projects buried in this piece of legislation would be wise to have it pulled from the bill. That would leave President Obama and the Democrats with a bill filled with nothing but Democrat pork projects. Republicans should make a stand!

Please check out the write-up in today's New York Times previewing our upcoming case in front of the U.S. Supreme Court.
According to The Times: "The case, to be argued March 24, will require the court to confront a new genre with old roots: the slashing political documentary...There are two basic questions before the court: Is the film the sort of 'electioneering communication' that the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law of 2002 says may not be broadcast in certain time windows before elections? And if it is, can the law itself then be squared with the First Amendment?...The net effect, Mr. Bossie said in an interview, is censorship. 'I can put it in as many theaters as I want across the country,' he said of the documentary. 'I just can’t let anyone know about it.'"

President Obama campaigned all over the country for two years on the platform that he was going to bring change to Washington, D.C. It was supposed to be change like we’ve never seen before. As part of that agenda of change, Mr. Obama said he would rein in wasteful congressional pork barrel spending.
So why in the world is President Obama going to sign into law a $410 billion omnibus spending bill that has more than 8,000 earmarks in it worth an estimated $7.7 billion?!? The pitiful White House excuse it that this funding bill is work left over from the Bush Administration, and therefore it is not their bill, not their problem. Does this sound like change? Excuses like this should leave Americans wondering where the buck stops in the Obama Administration. It looks like it may stop at President Bush’s new desk in Texas, because Obama and Co. are still blaming everything they possibly can on him.
What happened to taking responsibility? What happened to...

According to Politico, Montana Democrat Senator Max Baucus, Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, said he wants a comprehensive health care reform bill on the Senate Floor by the August 2009 recess.
Yes, you read it right. THIS August! President Obama and the liberals in charge of Congress, who control our country’s purse strings, are getting ready to ram another spending bill down our throats (this time for health care),
which promises to cost at least several hundred BILLION dollars by the time it’s all said and done.
Is it responsible governance for the Dems to trigger a national, potentially divisive debate on a health care overhaul package if the economy is still faltering as horribly as it is right now?
The August recess is only five months away. Will the economy be showing signs of recovery by then? Is it rational to start pushing this gargantuan health care spending bill before dealing with all the problems that need to be dealt with...

Citizens United was relieved to read that Roger Barnett, the Arizona rancher who stopped sixteen illegal immigrants from crossing his Arizona ranch in 2004,
was found not guilty of the utterly preposterous charges of false imprisonment, battery, and conspiracy in connection with the episode.
It is however, a miscarriage of justice that the illegal
immigrants were awarded $78,000 – which included damages for emotional distress! Barnett was simply guarding his property, as it had become a route for “armed drug and immigrant smugglers.”
Mr. Barnett appeared in our critically acclaimed 2006 film, Border War: The Battle Over Illegal Immigration. Learn more at www.borderwarmovie.com.

Barack Obama has been President of the United States for twenty-two days. He is poised to sign into law an $838 billion
stimulus package within the next week. Out of the 219 Republican members of the House and Senate who can vote on this bill,
it appears that only three will vote yea. The President appears to be bewildered as to why this bill won’t
achieve more bipartisan support. Has President Obama considered that perhaps the reason this bill is getting almost
no Republican votes is because it’s just a really bad bill?
This IS a poorly thought out bill. I don’t think anyone can argue that this bill isn’t a “rush job.”
In his press conference last night, the President appears to think this bill is the best we can do. That’s just not true.
If this bill is as important as he says it is, and bipartisanship is as important as he says it is, why not re-write the bill with both parties in the room?
Why not take a week to make this bill better? If the...

ABC is up with a story about DCI Nominee Leon Panetta's proposal to have the GAO audit the CIA -- of course, Citizens United brought it to you first!
Panetta Once Backed CIA Audits
By Rick Klein, ABC News, February 04, 2009 4:36 PM
"ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: With Leon Panetta’s nomination for CIA director being considered by the Senate Intelligence Committee Thursday, here’s one little-noticed aspect of his career in Congress he’s likely to be asked about.
"In 1987, when he was a House member from California, Panetta co-sponsored a bill that would have given the Government Accountability Office -- Congress’ investigative arm -- the power to audit CIA programs and activities.
"The CIA has in the past been walled off from GAO scrutiny by the Justice Department. Instead, oversight of the intelligence agency has been...

Not only has President Obama gone back on his pledge to usher in an era of post-partisanship in Washington
by appointing hyper-partisans such as Rahm Emanuel, Hillary Clinton, and Eric Holder (and a ton of other Clinton-era operatives]
to the highest levels of his government, but now it appears the President’s tough talk about lobbyists was all just talk as well.
The headline from The Associated Press last night had a familiar Washington ring to it:
“Promises, Promises: No lobbyists at WH, except…”
Yeah, you guessed it. Another politician, another broken promise.
The story’s lede was just as powerful:
“Barack Obama promised a ‘clean break from business as usual’ in Washington. It hasn’t quite worked out that way.”
Pretty tough stuff. So why is Obama and Company making exceptions and not following through
on their promises on ethics? Did he over promise? Even in that’s the case, is it a valid excuse?
No, it isn’t. Do you really need...

Should anyone in Congress vote for an ECONOMIC STIMULUS bill that contains this kind of outrageous spending that won’t create one job or help the economy at all? Why is this in the bill? Why would President Obama allow this in the bill:
“not less than $335,000,000 shall be used as an additional amount to carry out domestic HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, sexually-transmitted diseases,
and tuberculosis prevention programs, as jointly determined by the Secretary and the Director”
If you don’t believe it, look on the top of page 147.
This bill should not be supported unless it focuses exclusively on job creation and economic recovery.

The economy needs a big shot in the arm and our government needs to produce a
robust stimulus package that starts to help our citizens immediately.
The American people are willing to support an expensive bill,
but it’s absolutely imperative that it’s not loaded down with the typical Washington pork.
If our leaders enact a law that is filled with unnecessary wasteful spending,
all the campaign promises about “change” and “government that works” will
be dismissed as rhetoric. Americans are hungry for competent government
action and the stimulus package will be a big first test.
There is a good story out today entitled “Economic stimulus or just more pork?”
that lays out some of the questionable spending proposals in the bill.
I just can’t see how many of these measures will help the economy,
and if they won’t help the economy, why in the world should they be
kept in the bill? It’s critical that this legislation gets through the process clean. ...

Should the Senate Finance Committee approve a nominee for Treasury Secretary who did not pay his taxes? Shouldn’t the American public demand better? Timothy Geithner, President-elect Obama’s choice to run the Treasury Department and lead us out of this economic crisis, didn’t pay more than $30,000 in taxes over a four year period earlier this decade (2001-2004). Isn’t it a problem when the person who will be overseeing the Internal Revenue Service doesn’t pay his taxes correctly like everyone else is required to do by law?
The problems arose in 2001-2003, when Geithner worked at the International Monetary Fund where employees are required to pay self-employment taxes. According to The Associated Press, “Under federal law, international organizations like the IMF are exempted from paying the employer share of Social Security taxes. The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting today that Obama Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel had direct communication
with Governor Blagojevich about the now-infamous U.S. Senate appointment process in Illinois. In the

Rahm was doing the president-elect’s bidding. We know that ultimately it was communicated that
Blagojevich would be offered nothing in exchange for a Jarrett appointment, but was
there any brokering going on in the interim? The tapes will tell…

I was shocked and saddened this morning to hear that my dear friend and mentor Paul M. Weyrich died this morning at the age of 66.
Paul was working and writing until the very end, as just yesterday I received a handwritten note from him in which he expressed
the challenges the conservative movement will face in confronting the policies of the Obama Administration.
I’m fortunate that I’m able to call Paul a friend of over 20 years. I got to know Paul very well during the President Reagan years, and I am
a far better person for listening to him and learning from him. The leadership he has provided over the last 35 years has had
a profound influence on me and the conservative movement as a whole.
Paul will be sorely missed and always remembered.

After opining and reporting on the 2008 presidential race as an objective journalist,
Jay Carney, Time Magazine’s Washington Bureau Chief, it going to be VP-elect
Joe Biden’s Communications Director.
I think the fact that a “journalist” like Carney is given a top slot in Biden’s inner-circle
pretty well establishes that Carney is a longtime partisan Democrat in good standing.
NOTE: When I use “journalist” in quotes, it should be translated as “hack.”
So it appears that since 2005, Time Magazine has employed a Democrat operative
as its DC bureau chief. This should be a disappointment to anyone who reads Time
to get educated on the goings-on inside the Beltway. It means that Time readers
are probably getting a biased account of government and politics. It’s a shame.
The following excerpt from a memo written by Time’s managing editor
Richard Stengel is hard to read with a straight face:

With the Rod Blagojevich pay to play allegations concerning President-elect Obama’s Senate seat still carrying the news cycle, it looks like Obama’s Commerce Secretary-Designate Bill Richardson may be hearing from a
grand jury at some point soon.
According to Bloomberg: “The grand jury in Albuquerque is looking into Beverly Hills, California-based CDR Financial Products Inc., which received almost $1.5 million in fees from the New Mexico Finance Authority in 2004 after donating $100,000 to Richardson’s efforts to register Hispanic and American Indian voters and pay for expenses at the Democratic National Convention in 2004, people familiar with the matter said. The Federal Bureau of Investigation asked current and former officials from the state agency if any staff members in the governor’s office influenced CDR’s hiring, said the people, who declined to be identified because the proceedings are secret.

“I know he’s talked to the Governor.” These are the words of Obama’s chief political strategist David Axelrod on

I always viewed the idea that Barack Obama is a new kind of politician, a post-partisan politician as a stretch.
President-elect Obama is a product of Illinois politics. He spent eight years as a State Senator representing
a district on the South Side Of Chicago. His mayor is named Daley and with that name
comes the phrase “Cook County Machine.” There is nothing new or post-partisan about Chicago politics.
Throughout the presidential campaign, Obama came under fire for allowing shady Chicago
businessman and political fundraiser Tony Rezko to engage in a real estate transaction
that helped Obama buy his Hyde Park mansion. There is no doubt that Obama and Rezko were close, but not as close as Rezko
and Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich. Read about it here.

Why does he think he can win
a race for the U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania?
To begin with, Pennsylvania is anything but a fringe blue state.
Pennsylvania already has a Democrat Governor (Rendell) and Junior Senator (Casey).
There is no reason to believe Pennsylvanian’s want their statewide officeholders
all governing and legislating from the left. Pennsylvania is a state
that has enjoyed balance in their representation.
Who does Matthews think he is? As far as I can tell, he hasn’t lived in Pennsylvania since
he last tried to run for office in 1974 (he lost a U.S. House primary with 23% of the vote)!
Does he think he’s just going to move back to The Keystone State and say, here I am,
I’m moving back just because my ego thinks I belong in the U.S. Senate?
Well, what does Matthews have to offer Pennsylvania? He’s worked for Jimmy Carter,
Tip O’Neill, and The San Francisco Examiner. To say he’s not exactly the product
of competent moderation is...

Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) was re-elected yesterday by a wide margin of 58% - 42%.
Any coattails from November 4th are gone. Therefore, the Democrats will not have 60 Senators in the their caucus.
The media made a huge deal about the Dems getting to 60, thus becoming a filibuster-proof majority in the U.S. Senate. They said having 60
votes would clear the way for President-elect Obama’s agenda to sail through the Senate. So, if Sen. Coleman hangs on in Minnesota, the
Democrats will enter the 111th Congress with 58 members caucusing with them. Even if Coleman were to lose, they could only get to 59.
So the most likely final scenario is 56-2-42 (Sanders and Lieberman are Independents caucusing with the Democrats).
But in reality, if you look at the make-up of the U.S. Senate in the next Congress, there will probably be enough moderate Republican support
for Obama’s big priorities (stimulus, bailout, health care, Iraq war, energy) to stop a filibuster anyway. If...

President-elect Obama’s anti-war, left-wing base of support must be on the brink of mutiny.
Throughout the campaign, Obama relentlessly attacked the judgment of anyone who supported
the war in Iraq. Obama was making a deadly serious point about the folks who came down on
the wrong side of this war. His point was: Are the people who got it SO wrong on Iraq really
asking for a promotion? Obama’s line of attack on his hawkish opponents was more than just “politics,”
as it is being dismissed now.
Let’s face it, Obama won the primary because of his opposition to the War in Iraq.
It’s hard to see a scenario where Obama could have beat Hillary Clinton without
this trump card up his sleeve. This means that Obama is now president because the
anti-war left catapulted him there from the beginning.
How does the president-elect repay his early supporters? How does he spell out the
change in direction he championed for 20+ months? He picks HAWKS as his top...

Great headline from the AP yesterday: “President-elect promised change, picking insiders.”
Read the story here. You have to wonder if any Obama supporters are getting angry. The early actions of the Obama-Biden transition come from the same old playbook. Where are the new players?
Where is the new way of doing business? Where is the post partisanship? Where is the change we can believe in?
Do the names Clinton, Emanuel, Klain, Craig, Podesta, Holder, and Daschle illustrate change? This has to be one of the most egregious broken campaign promises of all time, because it drives a spike into the very core of the Obama message. I wonder if the mainstream media will ask
the president-elect about whether his words mean anything – or is he just another politician blowing smoke?

It looks like Former Clinton Deputy AG Eric Holder will be President-elect Obama’s choice for Attorney General of the United States. Obama is doing a good job of breaking
his #1 pledge to “change” Washington. In his short track record as president-elect, Obama appears to be appointing the same old partisan Washington insiders. So far he has drafted Emanuel, Klain, Craig, Holder, and maybe Hillary herself!?!
Let’s start with Greg Craig as White House Counsel. Craig may be a good lawyer, but all he reminds me of is Monica Lewinsky and impeachment. Is that the image Obama is striving for with his top counsel? Not exactly a breath of fresh air.
As for Holder, all I can think is that Obama must be getting ready to pardon Tony Rezko right out of the gate. Holder is the person at DOJ who was involved in allowing the infamous pardons of Marc Rich in 2001 and the FALN terrorists in 1999.

Is it me or is the Obama-Biden transition of 2008 starting to resemble the Clinton-Gore transition of 1992? Was the idea of “Change,” the central theme of the Obama campaign for two years, just another empty campaign slogan?
With the hiring of Ron Klain as Vice President-elect Joe Biden’s chief of staff, the Obama transition team has once again denied their supporters real change. With Rahm Emanuel and Klain now on board, the incoming White House staff is looking more and more like the hyper-partisan Clinton White House from the scandal-plagued 1990s. This looks like the opposite of “change we can believe in.”
Klain, who was also Al Gore’s Chief of Staff, gained infamy in 1997 for a memo he wrote for Gore concerning fundraising goals for the 1996 elections.
Gore came under intense fire for making fundraising phone calls from the White House as well as attending infamous White House “coffee” fundraisers in the White House.
In the memo, Klain...

Rahm running the White House: Change we need or more of the same?
Despite Tuesday night’s soaring rhetoric about bipartisanship and bringing the country together, President-elect Obama’s first act was to hand the keys to the White House to an inveterate partisan attack dog.
Rahm Emanuel, the Democrat counterpart to Karl Rove, is legendary for his Daley-style of bareknuckle politics. Will President Obama be able to rein him in or will Rahm continue to operate the same way he’s been operating for years?

Although the media refused to press President-elect Obama on the whereabouts of his 1983 college thesis entitled Soviet Nuclear Disarmament, now he has reason to find it. Obama, with very little foreign policy experience to speak of, will have an enormous problem on his hands come January 20, 2009.

In the midst of an economic crisis brought on by irresponsible mortgage lending, President-elect Obama reportedly offered the White House Chief of Staff position to an inveterate partisan that, by his own admission, has a conflict of interest that could prevent him from dealing with the housing crisis in America.

This is a significant statement coming from someone who was our country’s chief diplomat for 4 years. She says that it is a fact that there will be an international crisis that the next POTUS will have to deal with sometime between January and June 2009.
Think about that for a minute. Most Americans would rather not have a foreign policy tryout during that crisis.
Americans don’t want to have a discussion about whether or not the president can handle it properly. We are at a moment in history in which we need someone who has already had the tryout...

Joe “Foot In Mouth” Biden wandered dangerously off Obamaland talking points again on Sunday. Playing right into John McCain’s hands, Biden guaranteed that if elected, Barack Obama would be tested by an international crisis within the first six months of his presidency.
John McCain should have called Biden and said thank you.
Undecided voters hearing this must have said hold on one minute. If Biden is guaranteeing an international crisis sometime in 2009, maybe I should vote for the foreign policy expert who is running for president: John McCain. If a crisis is in fact right around the corner, why would I cast my vote for someone who has never been involved in a crisis?
Joe Biden deserves thanks for putting foreign policy back on the radar in this election. We live in a dangerous world. Is it a good time for a rookie?
If you want to watch a fantastic segment on Obama’s dangerously naïve foreign policy agenda, I urge you to check out our...

Two must reads from today's papers - one from David Brooks at the NYT, and the next from Fred Barnes at the Weekly Standard. Both are scary (and unfortunately, not incorrect) predictions of what we have in store if Obama takes the White House with large majorities in both houses of Congress.
Brooks:
"The new situation will reopen old rifts in the Democratic Party. One the one side, liberals will argue (are already arguing) that it was deregulation and trickle-down economic policies that led us to this crisis. Fears of fiscal insolvency are overblown. Democrats should use their control of government and the economic crisis as a once-in-a-lifetime chance to make some overdue changes. Liberals will make a full-bore push for European-style economic...

This is a must-read for anyone fed up with the government rewarding people for overreaching on their credit. The editors at National Review have it spot-on.
"Here is what is wrong with McCain’s new housing proposal: It can’t improve on current law without rewarding an unacceptable amount of bad behavior.
"Under the Frank-Dodd housing bill that was signed into law last summer, borrowers qualify for a federally subsidized workout only if they meet the following criteria:
"1) The borrower must live in his house — no investment properties.
"2) The borrower must show that he has been spending at least a third of his income on mortgage payments since March of this year.
"3) He must also show that he can afford to make lower payments if his lender agrees to a write-down.
"This is obviously a narrow slice of borrowers — around 400,000, according to most estimates. It excludes people who borrowed to buy investment properties in order...

Charles Krauthammer hits the nail on the head with his column today in The Washington Post. Are Rezko, Ayers and Wright fair game in a presidential campaign? You bet they are. They all go directly to character, judgment, and how far a politician will go to get what they want.

I think everyone should read the last few sentences in a column in today’s Chicago Sun-Times:
“Obama boosters like Sen. Dick Durbin compare him to Depression-era President Franklin Roosevelt. The only problem is that Roosevelt didn't rescue the economy; it took World War II to end the Great Depression. What would a President Obama do? He's talked about raising taxes and backing away from the nation's commitment to free trade. That sounds like the tax increases and trade tariffs enacted under President Herbert Hoover, and they made the 1930s economic troubles worse. Doing too little too late is bad enough. Doing the wrong thing could be catastrophic. Americans should remember that as they go to the polls Nov. 4.”
If Obama wins the presidency, he is about to learn that campaigning and attacking is A LOT easier than governing. What will he do to get us out of this? Is electing a tax and spender the right thing to do now?

John McCain missed another enormous opportunity last night. McCain continues to nibble
around the edges, refusing to take Obama head on. Someone in the McCain brain trust needs
to tell the candidate that unless he steps up the contrasts, his chances of winning are very slim.
What happened to straight talk? Straight talk means saying what you think, not letting others
say it for you. If you have a problem with Obama’s relationship with Williams Ayers, say it!
If you have a problem with Obama having a spiritual mentor like Jeremiah Wright, say it!
If you have a problem with Obama getting financial help from a felon to buy his mansion,
say it!
The American people need to hear directly from the candidate what’s wrong with these relationships.
Time is running out. If you want to get educated on Ayers, Wright & all the rest check out
our hard hitting film “Hype: The Obama Effect” at www.hypemovie.com.

Barack Obama’s friend and neighbor William Ayers is back in the news and rightly so. The American people have a right to know this information before they go to polls next month. Barack Obama has yet to explain why he would associate with a terrorist in any way whatsoever.
If you are interested in finding out the truth about the mysterious Obama-Ayers relationship, you should watch “Hype: The Obama Effect.” Check it out at www.hypemovie.com.
Here are some questions Obama has yet to answer about Ayers:
1) When did you find out about William Ayers’ terrorist past?
2) What did you think about those activities?
3) Why did you go to his house for a coffee get together when you were running for state senate?
4) Why did you serve on the board of the Woods Fund with Ayers?
5) Why did you sit on panels at the University of Chicago with Ayers?
6) Are you really this naïve, to admit you were reading a book written...

Tonight is an enormous opportunity for Gov. Sarah Palin. It’s time for her to step up. If she scores well tonight and I think she can, the CBS interview will be a thing of the past. Governor Palin needs to show the world she is ready to lead and is capable of being our Vice President.
One huge advantage is that she is going up against a disaster waiting to happen. If anyone can screw this thing up it is Joe Biden. Biden really should have been
a radio host. He can’t stop saying things that get him into trouble.
Even with all the coaching Biden is getting as we speak, I really don’t think he’s coachable. He has a problem. He’s addicted to putting his foot in his mouth.
Another advantage for Gov. Palin is that debate moderator Gwen Ifill has become a part of this narrative. Ifill is an Obama supporter – she’s writing a book entitled, “The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama.”
So all eyes will be on Ifill tonight to...

In last night's first presidential debate in Mississippi,
John McCain articulated precisely what the American people
should expect from an Obama foreign policy: retreat
in the War on Terror and weakness in dealing with Russia,
while dangerously giving rogue leaders the legitimacy
they most certainly do not deserve. In this election, it's
all about naïve and impulsive versus judgment and experience.
We live in a very dangerous world and I think it would be
foolhardy to trust Obama the rookie at this point in history.
On the economic front, McCain made a credible case
as someone who has and will continue to clean up Washington
and cut wasteful spending. McCain also was convincing
in saying that he will hold Wall Street accountable.
Obama on the other hand, can give you his experience
working with the Cook County machine, requesting earmarks,
and fighting for billions in new spending
and handouts.
McCain is CLEARLY not in this fight to make friends
in Washington...

Yesterday John McCain called for the firing of SEC Chairman Chris Cox. This is a good move by McCain who illustrated independence from the Bush Administration.
But in all seriousness, what has Cox been doing for the last three years? Who exactly is minding the store? Even if President Bush can’t fire Cox because he is the head
of an independent commission, Cox should resign. Someone needs to be held accountable.
During his time on Capitol Hill, Cox had the reputation of “knowing” he was the smartest guy in the room. Well, he won’t have to worry about that anymore. Let’s get someone in there that knows what they’re doing.

Once again, Barack Obama & The United Nations are putting up mixed signals about Iran & Ahmadinejad. On September 25th when Ahmadinejad is in New York City, Miguel D’Escoto Brockmann, the president of the UN General Assembly, is expected to attend a dinner with Ahmadinejad at the Grand Hyatt. Hyatt is owned by the Pritzker family. Penny Pritzker is Barack Obama's National Finance Chair.
Barack Obama and the United Nations need to get together and decide the following once and for all:
1. Is Iran a threat or not?
2. Is Iran helping kill our soldiers in Iraq or not?
3. Is Ahmadinejad advocating Israel's destruction or not?
4. Is Iran building a nuclear weapon or not?
5. Is Iran funding terrorist groups or not?
Of course the answer to all of these questions is yes. And on some days Barack Obama and the UN seem to agree.
On other days, like with this dinner on September 25th, they clearly do not.
Is Ahmadinejad someone...

Our country is in the midst of some very serious economic problems. The Democrats have nominated a community organizer for president who has put forward a primarily anti-growth agenda. Most people agree that raising taxes at a time like this would be the equivalent of throwing fuel on a fire.
The Democrat Party must be furious that they didn’t nominate Hillary this morning. The Clinton brand is synonymous with a prospering economy. That perception alone would give HRC an advantage going down the stretch with these economic conditions coming into play.
Obama enjoys no such advantage. In fact, Obama’s economic philosophy basically means taking away wealth from people who earned it and giving it to people who haven’t. That kind of thinking won’t get us out of this.

You know, I’m really glad the media is looking at Sarah Palin’s record. Because they are more than rested up after sleeping through Barack Obama’s vetting process over the last 18 months.
This editorial in the WSJ yesterday should open some eyes. What in the world happened at Columbia? Why doesn’t Obama answer questions about his time there? His roommate at the time said on the record that “We were both very lost.” What does that mean? This is where the Obama double standard with the press comes in. No one is asking what it means.
And as for good ol’ Matt Damon, who, as it turns out, is actually quite dumb for someone who played a genius in his only good movie 10 years ago. He has a real problem with Sarah Palin’s experience. He’s afraid she may have to become president if the unthinkable happens. Excuse me Matt, what about YOUR candidate’s experience? Obama is on

Is it me or did Barack Obama watch fake president Michael Douglas' speech from every liberal's favorite
"The American President" before he wrote his own speech?
The problem Barack, is that this is the real world.
Barack Obama's rhetoric is amazingly hollow. I still haven't heard any specific plans. And what accomplishments is he running on? The reason why he has no accomplishments is that he has never stayed at a job long enough to accomplish anything.
And what does this say about a man? And what does this say about what kind of president he might be? And the reason he doesn't articulate his policy plans?
Because they are the same as Jimmy Carter's, Walter Mondale's and Michael Dukakis'!
John McCain has gone out of his way to be a thorn in the side of the Bush Administration. It is not anywhere near a 3rd term. It's a false Obama political attack that doesn't hold...

Obama has got to be counting on his speech Thursday night to save his convention. Because so far, this convention has been really weak. Mark Warner? What a joke. Now I know why Obama didn’t pick him as his running mate. Totally boring and he really didn’t land one punch on McCain.
And then there’s Hillary. Hillary stole the show last night. She gave her acceptance speech…for 2012!
She did endorse Obama, and told her supporters to vote for him, but really didn’t say why he would be a good president. No details at all. No trumpeting of the Obama narrative. Hmmmm.
And now we hear that on Thursday night, the only two term Democrat president since FDR will NOT be attending Obama’s big speech. Wow, Bill just does not think Barack will be much of a president. It seems he’s trying to make sure he doesn’t become president.
So tonight we have Bill Clinton and…Joe Biden. Now who do you think will give a better speech and capture all the...

A new kind of politics? A reformer? Hey Barack, why not allow the records to be released?
Well it looks like the two “reformers” (wink-wink) Daley and Obama have decided not to let anyone inspect Obama’s time with the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, when he was working with the terrorist William Ayers.
132 boxes have been locked up – apparently no research of Obama is allowed. But why would the media want to know about Obama’s relationship with a radical bomber?
This is far from the first time we’ve heard this: Obama actually got away with saying that he has no records available from his 8 years as a State Senator. None. Zip.
And the media’s reaction: OK, we believe you Barack, no problem. Let’s get back to change and hope.
We covered the Ayers-Obama relationship in our upcoming film, Hype: The Obama Effect and would have...

If you're going to be in Denver this weekend and need to some relief from the Obama media circus, we're holding the World Premiere of "Hype: The Obama Effect" on Sunday!
See below for an article in today's Rocky Mountain News, and please contact us if you'd like to attend the showing!
An anti-Obama film will be shown on the 16th Street Mall on Sunday afternoon, the eve of the opening of the DNC.
The full-length film is called "Hype: The Obama Effect." It's produced by a national conservative group called Citizens United.
"I can't think of a more appropriate time or place to hold the world premiere of this film than in the middle of the Obama media frenzy that will be the Democratic convention," said David Bossie, executive producer of Hype and president of Citizens United. "Obama-palooza is going to be more of a rock concert than a serious political event, and that is exactly the phenomenon that Hype cuts through to get to the past, politics and policies...

Last night, I was hearing A LOT more rumblings about Tom Ridge for VP. I wasn’t shocked. John McCain needs a couple important Dem states to put Obama
on the defensive – make him spend some money he wasn’t planning on. Michigan could be heading that way perhaps, and putting Ridge on the ticket would be a huge headache for the Obama campaign in the Keystone State.
But here’s the reality: Michigan and Pennsylvania are not going in the McCain column this year; I don’t care who is on ticket. It’s just not going to happen in this political climate.
If McCain goes this route, the pro-choice/Pennsylvania route, you are going to put many Republican must win
states from the Bush map in jeopardy. Starting with Ohio. Without Ohio, it’s game over. How about other super close states - New Hampshire, Virginia, Colorado, New Mexico, Iowa – if the pro-life base decides to take a pass, you’re going to lose these states and Obama is going to The White House.
Not...

I believe each candidate has one critical issue to deal with before moving forward with making a VP pick:
McCain cannot pick someone who is pro abortion, and Obama cannot pick someone who voted for the war. If McCain were to pick Tom Ridge or Joe Lieberman, his already tepid support from the Republican base would erode to levels that would essentially make him unelectable.
As for Obama, if Obama were to pick someone who supported the Iraq war resolution in 2002, he would essentially be saying that McCain showed really bad judgment voting yes, but Biden, Dodd, Clinton, Bayh, Kerry, Bill Nelson, etc., all get a free pass for their
own “bad judgment”?
So, that severely limits Obama’s options in the US Senate. Here are the Senators who voted “no” on the Iraq war. Let me know if you find a VP pick in there somewhere (I can’t).
Akaka (D-HI), Bingaman (D-NM),Boxer (D-CA),Byrd (D-WV), Chafee (R-RI), Conrad (D-ND), Corzine (D-NJ),Dayton (D-MN),Durbin...

From today's LA Times:
In Hollywood docudramas, when the phrase "miscarriage of justice" is employed, it usually applies to the film's subject, not its creators.
But a new documentary called "Blocking the Path to 9/11," to be given a screening tonight, makes the case that former President Bill Clinton and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton have pressured television and studio executives into quashing the DVD release of ABC's 2006 miniseries “The Path to 9/11." The privately financed documentary argues that the Clintons, who decried the original miniseries as a right-wing hatchet job, are out to salvage their political influence and legacy at the expense of free expression.
The documentary, which will be shown to a sold-out audience at the Skirball Center, was produced by former KFI-AM talk show host John Ziegler and Citizens United, a Washington, D.C.-based conservative political group that emphasizes the importance of strong families, limited government and free...

I'm proud to announce the release of our latest film, "Blocking 'The Path to 9/11!'"
“Blocking ‘The Path to 9/11’” examines the incredible untold true story behind the controversy that erupted in 2006 around the ABC docudrama "The Path to 9/11." Through interviews with the head of the 9/11 Commission, the film's writer, producer, director, and editors, as well as numerous terrorism experts, this documentary sets the historical record straight on what really happened to the film and what allowed 9/11 to occur.
A trailer for the film is available at http://www.blockingthepath.com/.
“Blocking ‘The Path to 9/11’” exposes how powerful Democrats, fighting to protect the legacy of the family they presumed would lead them in the 2008 election, successfully attacked "The Path to 9/11" and got Disney/ABC to edit and then censor the film. With footage from the original film that was never before broadcast, this documentary shows you what the Clintons and their...

Ever since the first day of his campaign when he firmly planted his foot in his mouth, Joe Biden has demonstrated a heretofore undiscovered ability to keep his mouth shut when necessary.

Senator Obama must be mad that he can’t relax on his vacation. He must be figuring out what to do next. Do I cut short my vacation? Do I make another weak statement on the crisis in Georgia from my hammock in Hawaii? Do I choose my VP to change the news? Do I do another world tour? Decisions. Decisions. USA Today looks like they actually did some investigative reporting on Barack Obama’s record today by
disclosing the following:
“On Wednesday nights during Illinois General Assembly sessions, a group of lobbyists and lawmakers used to gather at the headquarters of the Illinois Manufacturers' Association for a weekly poker game. Barack Obama, who represented part of Chicago as state senator from 1997-2004, was a regular.
"These days, Obama says lobbyists are part of the problem with Washington, and he refuses to accept their fundraising help. But during his eight years in Springfield, Ill., Obama played golf and basketball with them and hit them up for campaign donations, according to records and interviews. He shared meals with them, though he was careful to pay his own way, they say.
"Obama also accepted lobbyist money when he ran for the U.S. Senate in 2004,...

Jim Johnson, formerly of Fannie Mae and Obama’s VP vetting committee, resigned the other day amid allegations that he received favorable loans from one of the worst perpetrators of the subprime mortgage crisis. Because of the enormous pressure applied by critics (as in one of our earlier blog posts), Jim Johnson resigned his post so as not to distract from Obama’s campaign. Now another member of Obama’s VP vetting committee is coming under fire.

Now that the presidential nominees for both parties have been decided, the focus of this election has turned to the VP decision. Filling this open slot has taken center stage as the nominee’s choice for VP, even potential choices for VP reveal much about the direction our country will take in the next four to eight years and beyond.

Predictably, the Democrats have themselves all worked up over President Bush’s comments at the Israeli Knesset yesterday, where he said,
“Some seem to believe that we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along,” Bush said during a speech in Israel’s Knesset. “We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: ‘Lord, if I could only have talked to Hitler, all this might have been avoided.’ We have an obligation to call this what it is -- the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history.”
Of course (even though he wasn’t mentioned), Obama screamed bloody murder at the thought that anyone would question his policy of engaging in direct negotiations with Iran:
"It is sad that President Bush would use a speech to the Knesset on the 6Oth anniversary of Israel's...

Let me know if you think this keeps Hillary Clinton up at night. In a recent article in The New Yorker
talking about where Hillary went wrong, HRC’s decision to become a New Yorker is looked at:
“When and where, it is not too soon to ask, did she go wrong? Well, here’s one answer: eight years ago, in New York. If she had chosen, instead, to move to Illinois, where her accent is familiar and her connections deep (Chicago’s her home town, after all), she could have settled in and sought her Senate seat there, in 2004. She didn’t do that, presumably for reasons both marital (Bill’s not really a Second City kind of guy) and political (she would have had to run for President as a first-term senator rather than as a reelected one). But Barack Obama would still be a local or regional up-and-comer and, most likely, a Hillary supporter.”
So, if Hillary had simply MOVED...

Hillary Clinton’s lifelong dream must be to relive the nightmarish 1968 Democrat convention in Chicago. The problem is that Denver 2008 will make Chicago look
like amateur hour. Let me paint a picture for you: Obama wins the majority of pledged delegates as the primaries come to a conclusion in early June.
Clinton and her band of delusional followers will continue to say that no one is the nominee, because no one made it to the 2,025 threshold. So we go through
June, July, and August with the Clintons convincing the unpledged superdelegates that Obama can’t get 270 electoral votes, so there is no use nominating him.
And hundreds of stories are written to that effect, thus crippling Obama and REALLY angering his supporters. So a good percentage of crazy Obama supporters roll
into Denver vowing to go ballistic if the Clinton dare to take it all away from them.
Two scenarios play out:
1) Obama hangs on and loses the general because the Clintons did...

The current issue of Newsweek has an article on what they expect to see in the months leading up to the general election. Naturally, because they believe that anyone who would go so far as to question anything about Barack Obama’s policies or past associations with unsavory characters is a right-wing “mudslinger”, they predict that the Right Wing Conspiracy will be in full force.
While that isn’t entirely unexpected, given the media’s feelings towards Senator Obama, there are two particularly offensive parts of this piece that put it into an entirely new category of journalistic bias.
First, Thomas and Wolffe report, “Then there's David Bossie, already deep into a mudslinging campaign against Obama through a political organization called Citizens United.” Of course, they don’t bother to back that claim up by giving any examples of mudslinging by Citizens United. They’d just prefer to paint any...

Over the weekend, a number of events occurred in the world of foreign policy that demonstrate the stark difference between the way that Republicans and Democrats approach foreign policy.
First, AFP reported that Ahmadinejad, the same guy that Obama promised to meet without preconditions in the first 100 days of his hypothetical presidency, went off the reservation again:
“‘Those who think they can revive the stinking corpse of the usurping and fake Israeli regime by throwing a birthday party are seriously mistaken,’ the official IRNA news agency quoted Ahmadinejad as having said.
"‘Today the reason for the Zionist regime's existence is questioned, and this regime is on its way to annihilation.’”
Then comes the news that (now former) Obama foreign policy advisor Rob Malley had been Read More

George Will has a great column up on Real Clear Politics today where he tears apart Hillary’s rationale for continuing the race:
“Hillary Clinton, 60, Illinois native and Arkansas lawyer, became, retroactively, a lifelong Yankee fan at age 52 when, shopping for a U.S. Senate seat, she adopted New York state as home sweet home. She may think, or at least would argue, that when she was 12 her Yankees really won the 1960 World Series, by standards of 'fairness,' because they trounced the Pirates in runs scored, 55-27, over seven games, so there.
“Unfortunately, baseball's rules -- pesky nuisances, rules -- say it matters how runs are distributed during a World Series. The Pirates won four games, which is the point of the exercise, by a total margin of seven runs, while the Yankees were winning three by a total of 35 runs. You can look it up.”
Of course, for those of us...

Matt Drudge’s headline says it all. Obama is the nominee. Tim Russert said last night that “we now know who the Democratic nominee is going to be.”
The question is, when will Hillary & Bill realize their 20 year plan will not be fulfilled? I think it’s now safe to say that Clinton & Co. are not the political
geniuses many in the media have made them out to be. Their epic failure to plan for many of the caucus states will go down as one of the biggest tactical
blunders in presidential primary history. I just don’t think you can be described as a pair of political geniuses anymore when one lets himself get impeached and
the other lets it slip away to a half-term senator. The question is, what will they do? Will they be the typical selfish Clintons and stay in, divide the party further,
and hope Obama loses, so she can run again in 2012? Or cut a deal so she can be the next Democrat leader of the Senate?
No one will argue that she can’t do a better...

Jim Geraghty over at National Review has a link to a new pic of Obama pal and unrepentant bomb-setter Bill Ayers stomping on an American flag underneath the quote “guilty as hell, free as a bird, it’s a great country.”
You’ll remember that Obama dodged the question about why he associated with an admitted terrorist by saying he wasn’t responsible for something that Ayers did 40 years ago. Ignoring the speciousness of THAT argument for just a moment, Obama is going to have a harder time getting away from this one, seeing as how he was serving on the board of a non-profit with Ayers at the time this particular shot was taken.
How many more of these relationships are going to pop up between now and November? With a

Hot on the heels of Pastor Jeremiah Wright once again taking center stage in the Democrat Primary -- and revealing that Senator Obama kept him hidden in the basement the day he announced his Presidential run -- comes more breaking news that chips away at Obama’s self proclaimed “New Kind of Candidate” mantra.
Senator Obama has railed against special interests in politics during his primary run.
"The case has never been clearer - this kind of politics needs to end," Obama campaign manager David Plouffe wrote in a recent fundraising e-mail.
"[Y]ou can't say yesterday, you don't believe in 'em, and today, you're having three-quarters of a million dollars being spent for you. You can't just talk the talk." (Sen. Barack Obama, Remarks At A Campaign Event, Oskaloosa, IA, 12/22/07)
"We've got to get beyond the small politics ... the slash and burn politics that have become the custom in Washington." ("Obama Denounces 'Slash And Burn' Politics," The Associated...

Between Rev. Jeremiah Wright speaking at the National Press Club yesterday and North Carolina Governor Mike Easley endorsing Hillary Clinton today, the primaries on May 6 are becoming more and more interesting. Before Rev. Wright took off on his escapade with the national press corps, the conventional wisdom was that Barack Obama would easily win North Carolina and Indiana would be a much closer contest, with Hillary Clinton desperately needing a win in the Hoosier State.
But following the Rev’s week-long media tour, culminating with his sermon at the National Press Club yesterday, things are changing. The Governor of North Carolina, a state that Obama was expected to win handily, just endorsed Hillary Clinton. If Barack Obama was such a sure bet in the Tar Heel state, why would Governor Easley endorse Hillary Clinton? Does he see something that polling isn’t indicating? And have you noticed that the media stopped writing stories about how Obama has the nomination...

I can’t help but chuckle to myself about what’s going on within the Democrat Party. Hillary Clinton CANNOT win the Democrat nomination in terms of popular vote and pledged delegates.
You may ask then, why is she not dropping out and endorsing Barack Obama? The answer: she’s a Clinton, and the Clinton’s don’t care about anyone but themselves. When John McCain is elected in November,
because Hillary and Bill refused to unite the party in time, another adjective will be added to the sorry Clinton legacy: selfishness. The ONLY way Hillary can become the nominee is to limp along to the convention, hoping that some new dirt is dug up on Obama, making his electability that much more difficult. Then in typical Clinton fashion, they will strong arm superdelegates and win REALLY ugly – the only way Hillary and Bill know how. Then with Hillary as the nominee that no one likes, they will go 100% NEGATIVE on John McCain, because that’s the only way a candidate with 60%...

Did anyone actually read the 3800-word hatchet job The Washington Post did on Sen. McCain yesterday?
The liberal media has decided to try to make McCain’s temper an issue [because they have to hit McCain while the Democrats hit each other],
and they aren’t going to let the facts get in the way of a good story. It’s clear that the reporter was going to write this story no matter what
his sources told him, and that’s a shame.
The media bias here is astonishing. When is the Post going to do the front page above the fold story on
Hillary Clinton’s temper, and report on some of her infamous lamp-throwing eruptions?
For the real story, check out McCain advisor Mark Salter's take on the piece at National Review Online:
"If one half of it were true, it would give me pause. As it happens, the piece is 99% fiction. [Reporter Michael] Leahy...

Obama: Can’t ‘Swift Boat’ Me
The Obama campaign is planning to expand its research and rapid-response team in order to repel attacks it anticipates over his ties to 1960s radical Bill Ayers, indicted developer Antoin Rezko and other figures from his past. David Axelrod, Obama's chief strategist, tells NEWSWEEK that the Illinois senator won't let himself be "Swift Boated" like John Kerry in 2004. "He's not going to sit there and sing 'Kumbaya' as the missiles are raining in," Axelrod said. . . . The move appears to be an acknowledgment that the Obama campaign may not have moved aggressively enough when questions about Ayers and Rezko first arose, and it comes amid fresh indications that conservative groups are preparing a wave of attack ads over the links.
Operatives such as David Bossie, whose Citizens United group made the Willie Horton ad that helped sink Michael Dukakis's 1988 presidential bid, are sharpening knives as expectations mount that Obama will...

In the latest attempt to push global warming alarmism, the cover on the April 21st issue of Time Magazine disgracefully replaces the American Flag in the famous Iwo Jima photo with … a tree?
WWII veterans are rightfully red with anger.
Donald Mates, an Iwo Jima veteran, told the Business & Media Institute on April 17 that using that photograph for that cause was a “disgrace.”
“It’s an absolute disgrace,” Mates said. “Whoever did it is going to hell. That’s a mortal sin. God forbid he runs into a Marine that was an Iwo Jima survivor.”
“Mates also said making the comparison of World War II to global warming was erroneous and disrespectful.”
“The second world war we knew was there,” Mates said. “There’s a big discussion. Some say there is global warming, some say there isn’t. And to stick a tree in place of a flag on the Iwo Jima picture is just...

In Wednesday’s blog, I told you about CNN going out of their way to apologize to Communist China for remarks made on their network regarding the recent violence in Tibet and western parts of China.
To recap:
On CNN’s “Situation Room” Jack Cafferty said of the Chinese government "I think they're basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they've been for the last 50 years," he said.
The Communist government and their sympathizers immediately reacted in typical fashion that could be accurately described as “goonish.”
As reported by Associated Press, “CNN has been singled out by the Chinese government and unknown activists who have phoned and e-mailed death threats to Western reporters.”
Nevermind the fact that much harsher criticism has been leveled at the Bush administration on the Clinton News Network, with no apology forthcoming. CNN quickly issued an apology for the statements to China.
Not good enough, said the Chinese, and Foreign...

Not sure if you caught it, but it looks like Hillary Clinton actually admitted to lying last night about what she had been saying about her 1996 Bosnia trip!
For those of us who have been waiting for this moment for 16 years or more, I think it’s time to pop the champagne!
Check it out and you be the judge:
TOM ROONEY, VOTER: "Senator Clinton, how do you reconcile the campaign credibility that you have when you made those comments about what happened getting off the plane in Bosnia, which totally misrepresented what really happened on that day? You really lost my vote. And what can you tell me to get that vote back?"
CLINTON: "Well, Tom, I can tell you that I may be a lot of things. But I'm not dumb. And I wrote about going to Bosnia in my book in 2004. I laid it all out there. And you're right. On a couple of occasions in the last weeks, I just said some things that weren't in keeping with what I knew to be the case and what I had written about...

One of the critical questions Americans should ask themselves this November is, “Who do our enemies want to win the election?”
At least one terrorist leader shed some light on that question earlier this week. And it’s bad news for the Senator from Illinois.
During an interview on WABC radio Sunday, top Hamas political adviser Ahmed Yousef said the terrorist group supports Obama's foreign policy vision.
"We don't mind-actually we like Mr. Obama. We hope he will (win) the election and I do believe he is like John Kennedy, great man with great principle, and he has a vision to change America to make it in a position to lead the world community but not with domination and arrogance," Yousef said in response to a question about the group's willingness to meet with either of the Democratic presidential candidates.
Sounds like he’s reading straight from the Obama Campaign talking points, doesn’t it?
Now the notion that our enemies have a rooting...

Two recent actions by CNN, one directly involving Citizens United, reveal the true inner workings at the Clinton News Network.
Earlier this month on CNN’s program “Situation Room”, Jack Cafferty stated the United States imported Chinese-made "junk with the lead paint on them and the poisoned pet food", adding: "They're basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they've been for the last 50 years."
A fairly accurate statement in my opinion. Of course, the Chinese government cried foul.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu condemned the "evil attack" by CNN on the Chinese people.
"Cafferty used the microphone in his hand to slander China and the Chinese people, and seriously violated reporting ethics," she said.
And in predictable fashion, not wanting to offend the peace-loving, human rights respecting Communists in China, CNN almost immediately apologized.
In a statement, CNN groveled, “It was not Mr. Cafferty's nor CNN's intent to...

As liberals prove every day, one of the rights we have in America is to display a stunning lack of intelligence.
Last Friday, Bill Maher, Darling of the Left, Host of HBO’s “Politically Incorrect”, and former comedian carried the Liberal Flag of Ignorance a step further.
In another desperate “Look at Me” attempt to stay relevant (reminiscent of his comments that the 9/11 hijackers were not cowards) Maher spewed forth hate filled speech directed at Pope Benedict XVI and all Catholics in America.
Before we get into what he said, let’s make one thing clear. Maher is long on record as not being a religious man, to say the least. That’s his right.
On countless occasions he’s degraded and ridiculed anyone who believes in God as backward hayseeds whose faith in a higher power makes them no different from Islamic fundamentalists who kill in the name of Allah.
Again he can believe what he wants. His show is called “Politically Incorrect” and he is after all an...

The New York Times finally decided to do something useful: cover the Tony Rezko trial. It was disclosed in court yesterday that Barack Obama did in fact attend a party at Tony Rezko's home in 2004, a party that was also attended by none other than Nadhmi Auchi, a "controversial Iraqi-born investor."
Who is Nadhmi Auchi you ask?
You can blame the mainstream media for wanting nothing to do with this story in hopes of protecting their candidate.
It just so happens Auchi wired Rezko $3.5 million three weeks before Rezko purchased the empty lot next to the Obama mansion. This $625,000 transaction, which enabled the Obamas to purchase the mansion next door, came at a time when the Rezkos were basically broke.
So let's get this straight: Auchi, "a billionaire who had been convicted on fraud charges in Europe," helped the Obama's buy their mansion in Chicago? Ouch.
The question is, what did Auchi get in return or what has he been promised?

Ask any child under the age of 13 what their favorite holiday is and odds are they’ll answer Christmas morning.
Ask any liberal democrat what their favorite holiday is and the response is likely to be April 15.
That’s right, it’s Tax Day. And liberals in Congress are as excited to tear into your tax dollars as a six year old is to tear open his presents on December 25.
President Ronald Reagan described the difference between Republicans and Democrats as only he could when he said during his re-election campaign in 1984, “Republicans believe every day is the Fourth of July, but Democrats believe every day is April 15.”
It’s 24 years later and for the Democrats nothing has changed.
Earlier in the Democratic primary season, Hillary Clinton said America can’t afford to pay for everything she wants to do. Finally we agree.
Barack Obama has called for raising the current capital gains rate of 15 percent to 20-25 percent. At least he has backed off his...

So the liberal media is once again circling the wagons around Barack Obama.
The prevailing liberal talking point is that Obama “put his foot in his mouth”…he made a mistake in phrasing.
This wasn’t a mistake…and it wasn’t a poor choice of words.
Obama did American voters a favor. He pulled the curtain back a little more for all of us to see what liberals really think of all those backwards voters in fly-over country.
Here was the situation. On April 6th, Obama was at a private, big-money fundraiser in San Francisco. So he’s surrounded by the ultra-left wing of the Democrat party. Naïve enough to think what he says is not going to be broadcast for public consumption, and he let his guard down.
Here’s what he said in response to a question about blue-collar voters in rural areas. “So it's not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade...

You choose.
You have to go the hospital for a surgical procedure.
Doesn’t matter what it is.
Now two doctors stand in front of you.
One has never performed this procedure, but just graduated from med school, has the degree and assures you they’ve read lots of books about the surgery and even has watched it performed a few times before.
The other physician has performed the surgery dozens of times, knows the do’s and don’ts and his patients make it out of the hospital.
You choose Number 2 right?
Me too.
I bring this up because of something Senator Obama said on Monday.
"[F]oreign policy is the area where I am probably most confident that I know more and understand the world better than Senator Clinton or Senator McCain."
We’ll leave the comparison with Senator Clinton alone. The Democrats are doing a good enough job attacking each other.
Of course Senator Obama’s comments were accepted as gospel by the...

Tainted Tanks
EADS comes with a pernicious past.
By David N. Bossie
Dwight Eisenhower once observed, “History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid.” The danger of weakness in prosecuting the War on Terror brings to mind the wisdom of Eisenhower’s prescient observation.
Consider the recent decision by the Department of Defense to award a $35 billion contract to build America’s fleet of refueling tankers to the French-owned European Aerospace Defense and Space Company (EADS). In one of the most colossal blunders of the struggle against the terrorists, we have handed over the future of a vital tool in the projection of U.S. power over to bureaucrats and politicians in Russia and France.

The Arabic-language newspaper Al-Hayat reported Tuesday that Jimmy Carter was planning a trip to Syria for mid-April, during which he would meet with Khaled Meshal, the exiled head of the Palestinian terror group Hamas, on April 18.
Visit our troops? Uh . . . No.
Meet with the commanders on the ground? He’ll pass.
Give credibility to a murdering group of thugs determined to kill as many Americans as possible by meeting with their leader? HE’S THERE!
This biggest embarrassment to sit in the White House in my lifetime…the man whose total lack of leadership, vision and common sense nearly drove our country into the ground, will reportedly be meeting with the leader of the terrorist group Hamas.
In a blatant effort to undermine the Bush Administration’s policy regarding this group of murderers and damage our credibility overseas, Jimmy Carter wants to talk peace with Khaled Meshal, the exiled leader of Hamas who is now in Syria.

You’ve got to feel for the guy, don’t you?
Imagine being one of the best in the world at your job, whether you’re a salesman, assembly line worker, or office manager. Imagine having to be called away from your job, halfway around the world to explain why you’re doing what you’re doing to a group of people, some who don’t think much of your profession, and would have little idea how to do your job. Yet you have to answer to them. That’s the position General David Petraeus finds himself in today when he appears before Congress to give his update on the progress of the war in Iraq. Among those questioning him will be - that’s right - Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
But let’s not feel sorry for General Petraeus. He’s a big boy and more than capable of holding his own against the questioning, as he proved back in the fall. He doesn’t need us to protect him.
Instead, we should feel sorry for ourselves. Why? Because those liberal Members of Congress asking the...

Actor and Patriot Charlton Heston dies at 84
Everyone at Citizens United would like to express our condolences to the family of Charlton Heston upon his passing away at the age of 84 on Saturday night.
Mr. Heston’s award winning work in films such as The Ten Commandments, Ben Hur and The Planet of the Apes made him an international movie star. But it was his willingness to step up and provide leadership of issues ranging from Civil Rights in the 1960’s to defending the 2nd Amendment as President of the National Rifle Association for three terms beginning in 1999 that set him apart.
A true freedom loving American, a talented actor and an even better man. Charlton Heston will be missed.

In 2006, Citizens United Foundation produced the documentary film Border War (click here to order a DVD copy), which blew the lid off the amnesty debate and exposed the true cost, in life and treasure, that illegal immigration on our Southern Border has on the everyday lives of Americans.
In that film, we interviewed, among many others, Mexican sympathizers who hold the firm belief that the Southwestern portion on the United States still belongs to Mexico…and they’re willing to do whatever it takes to re conquer that land.
Now, it seems that the makers of Absolut Vodka agree with them!
In the current issue of Quien magazine in Mexico City, Absolut Vodka ran an ad that redraws a map of North America that would please Mexican partisans. A huge portion of the United Sates is depicted as belonging to...

The Bosnia lie was bizarre. But some of her manifold other lies were arguably more sinister. The best compendium of Hillary mendacity (and at-least-near-criminality) available right now is Hillary: The Movie, and the book version thereof, produced by Citizens United and its indefatigable leader, Dave Bossie. (Full disclosure: Last fall, I did a final copy-edit for -- but did not write -- the book.) And no, this isn't a mere rehashing of the familiar scandals of the 1990s -- although an appendix by Deroy Murdock, reprinted in the February issue of The American Spectator, does delve into the old story of Hillary's crooked cattle futures trading and reports some startlingly overlooked facts -- but rather an examination of more recent scandals that never received...

Those in the conservative movement who have gone toe-to-toe with Bill Clinton over the past two decades, myself included, have long known that the former President’s charming public persona was in stark contrast to his behavior in private.
Publicly, Bill Clinton projects a positive, good-ol-boy, aw-shucks attitude that drew many Americans to his defense during his years in the Oval Office. Privately, the stories of Clinton’s maniacal, vindictive, threatening and some would say criminal behaviors are legendary...and not very pretty. In fact, it’s led to his nickname of “Don” Clinton, the Godfather of the Democrats.
Now, the power over his Party family seems to be slipping away…and with it his political judgment and smooth public image.
We’ve all seen the red-faced, finger pointing Clinton scolding American voters and press in town hall meetings who dare to question his acts as President as well as his wife’s credentials for the White House.
Now come...

In an effort to move the media off his ever changing stances on those hot button issues, Senator Obama weakly tried to make hay off Senator McCain’s statements about U.S. troops staying in Iraq for “100 years”.
Sen. McCain quickly “derided rival Democrat Barack Obama as having no experience with the history of warfare, saying the lack of knowledge explains Obama's attacks on McCain's Iraq positions.”
"In all due respect, he does not understand the elemental, fundamental elements of national security and warfare," McCain said. "Because that's exactly what we did in Korea. That's what we did after World War II. That's what we did in Kuwait after the first Gulf War."
And he said the American voters will eventually conclude the same. "They'll understand, if they don't now, that he has no experience or background on these issues."
So, the Democrats want to have a debate on foreign policy and national security with John McCain? This is shaping up nicely.

Last week in Pennsylvania, Barack Obama declared that his foreign policy was a return to the foreign policies of Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.
Really?
In 1983 when President Reagan and then-Vice President Bush were standing toe-to-toe with the Communist threat from the Soviet Union, Barack Obama was, according to the New York Daily News, attending “socialist conferences” in New York City. Also in 1983, Barack Obama penned a thesis at Columbia University entitled “Soviet Nuclear Disarmament.” As of today, Obama has not released his thesis, and the media (even though they got copies of MICHELLE Obama’s thesis) has not bothered to ask him for it.
If Barack Obama wants to claim the mantle of President Reagan’s foreign policy, we think that it might be worthwhile to take a look at what he was saying at the height of the Cold...

For someone described as a “New” kind of politician, Barak Obama is proving himself to be an expert in the time honored Democrat tradition of flip flopping on important issues.
As I said in yesterday’s blog, liberals running for President can never be honest with the public about what they believe---because they would never win the White House.
As if on cue, reports surfaced yesterday on both Obama’s conflicting stances on hot button issues and whether he has the judgment to hold the highest office in the land.
First, Obama had claimed to have never seen a candidate survey completed for the left-wing Independent Voters of Illinios-Independent Precinct Organization(IVI-IPO) during his first run for public office. Now we come to learn Obama’s handwriting is on the cover page of the survey.
The Senator claims that doesn’t mean he actually answered the questions. In fact, in true Obama fashion, he’s blaming it on a campaign staffer.
He has good...

As the most liberal member of the United States Senate, it would be tough for Barak Obama to compare himself with former President Ronald Reagan.
But in his latest attempt to sell himself as a “Man for All People”, that’s exactly what the leading candidate for the Democrat Presidential nomination is trying to do. Unfortunately for him, facts are stubborn things.
Here’s what Obama said last Friday at his first town hall meeting of his “Stand for Change” bus tour:
“The truth is that my foreign policy is actually a return to the traditional, bipartisan, realistic foreign policy of George Bush's father, John F. Kennedy, of in some ways Ronald Reagan.” He added, “She (Clinton), like McCain and Bush, said you shouldn't talk to leaders of countries like Iran.”
Now, maybe I missed it, but I don’t recall President Reagan having a sit down with Libyan Dictator Mohmar Khadafi. I remember President Reagan taking swift and decisive military action that resulted...

It’s been a good couple of weeks for Republicans. No, better than that, it's been a fun couple of weeks.
Nothing warms the heart like watching the two titans of the Democrat Party turn their guns on each other and unleash their attack dogs, while John McCain gets to be Presidential, organize his team and raise money. Unfortunately, they don’t hold the election in April. So let’s hold off on any thought of a victory party.
Not to mention the mess going on in New York State. By the way, are CNN or MSNBC ever going to identify Spitzer or Patterson as Democrats? I’m still waiting.
Not only are the Democrat Party elders in a meltdown, their friends in the mainstream media are in a full fledged panic as to what to do. They’ve spent the last few days practically begging Hillary to drop out for the sake of the party. Last week, they were in full attack mode on Obama’s Pastor Scandal. Now, TIME Magazine has put out the notion that Al Gore should ride to the rescue on...

Despite liberal media headlines to the contrary, Citizens United’s fight to promote our latest film “Hillary:The Movie” is far from over.
Yesterday, the Supreme Court ruled it did not have jurisdiction to rule on a lower Court’s refusal to grant a preliminary injunction to Citizens United that would have allowed us to market the film during the primary season.
The case will now go back to a 3 judge panel for trial. Depending on how that Court rules on the merits of the case, the case could go back to the US Supreme Court, which would then have jurisdiction.
How quickly the 3 judge panel rules is critical, as our goal all along has been to expose the dangerous agenda of Hillary Clinton to the American people. There’s no doubt the government lawyers are dragging their feet to prevent the case from being tried prior to the election.
Rest assured, Citizens United stands ready for the looming battle for Free Speech that lies ahead. We categorically...

The Supreme Court denied an appeal today from a conservative group that wants to run ads promoting an unflattering documentary about Hillary Rodham Clinton. Citizens United's appeal was rejected for jurisdictional reasons. Now, the group must either wait for district court action or run ads that comply with current campaign finance laws by disclosing who paid for the ads.
Citizens United's lawyer said that he will be waiting for the Federal District Court to make its decision before taking any other action.
"Hillary: The Movie," has had one-night shows in a handful of movie theaters and is available on DVD. So far, the film has only been advertised on the Internet--a medium that does not have any disclaimer and contributor disclosure rules under campaign finance law.
The film uses more than 40 interviews with opinion makers and those who "personally locked horns with the...

In another blatant example of the anti war crowd being anti-troops, a high school in Minnesota yesterday bowed to pressure and cancelled a National Heroes Tour Assembly scheduled to be held on its campus.
According to the Veterans for Freedom website, the national tour "is about supporting our troops, honoring their commitment and rallying the country to complete the missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Forest Lake High School principal claimed the event was becoming "too political" and admitted the school had received calls from concerned parents and "others" that the event honoring the veterans would send the wrong message.
Exactly what message is that? That our veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan don't deserve our thanks and respect for laying their lives on the line for our freedoms? That the 150 social studies students invited to attend might hear a positive, pro-American message from the men and women who know what it means to sacrifice everything...

Barack Obama, movie star? He's won a Grammy, published best-selling books and taken the lead in the Democratic presidential race, so can an Oscar be far behind?
You won't see Obama donning a tuxedo for this Sunday's Academy Awards show, but next year he might very well be there on stage, if not in spirit.
A major documentary about the Democratic presidential candidate is in the works, offering an inside view of his campaign with filmmakers shooting "staggering amounts" of revealing behind-the-scenes footage. The project, currently untitled, has been ongoing for roughly two years, backed by actor-producer Edward Norton’s Class 5 Productions banner and directed by Amy Rice, sister of Andrew Rice, an Oklahoma state senator and U.S. Senate candidate. Alicia Sams, who served as field producer for last year's doc "Election Day," is co-directing with Rice.
Every campaign season...

The Supreme Court can do much today to remove the McCain-Feingold speech-regulation law's stain if it decides to hear the case of Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. It should waste no time in doing so.
Let's face it: The 2008 election season is well under way, yet political speech remains decidedly un-free in America - held hostage to the vanity of John McCain and the cynicism of his accomplices in Congress and the media, who seek to silence their political opponents in the name of clean government.
With a ruling against the law last year, the court began scrubbing away at its ugly blemish on the Constitution. But there's much left to do - and the Citizens United case, plus another now before the Washington, DC, district court, provide good opportunities.
Citizens United, an activist conservative group, wants relief from burdensome disclosure and disclaimers rules in ads...

Several recent developments in the past two weeks may be signaling an end to a very difficult year and a half for the GOP---and it's coming just in the nick of time. Consider this: - Barack and Hillary are tearing each other up,dividing the Democrat party and it's looking more and more like the Democrat nomination will be decided by technicalities, backroom deal making---and hopefully---high-priced attorneys.
- The Pelosi/Reid Congress is a DISASTER-They have a lower approval rating then the IRS!
- Thanks to calls from Conservative groups like Citizens United, the mainstream media is finally taking a little closer look at Obama’s record...and uncovering some pretty nasty stuff. The bloom may be off the rose.
- Eliot Spitzer- the MOST POWERFUL Democrat outside of Washington is finished and he's has SHAMED the Democrats in the process.
In short these are just the breaks the Republican party needs as we head into Spring and Summer. The American...

SCOTUSblog

The Justice Department urged the Supreme Court this week to find that it has no authority to hear an appeal challenging restrictions on broadcast of ads to promote a critical campaign film about presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton. In a new brief, filed Monday, Solicitor General Paul D. Clement contended that the appeal in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission (07-953) should be heard at this stage by the D.C. Circuit Court because, Clement contended, the Supreme Court simply has no jurisdiction. Clement also said that Citizens United still had time — until next Monday — to file an appeal at the Circuit Court to keep its case alive.
If the Court chooses not to reject the appeal on jurisdictional grounds, Clement suggested, it still should not hear the case, but should throw it out "for lack of a substantial federal question." The government's new brief can be downloaded [1]...

The Supreme Court has asked for new briefs in a case involving broadcast promos for a documentary attacking Hillary Clinton.
At issue is whether the court has jurisdiction to take the case, which is based on a challenge to certain campaign finance regulations.
On Friday afternoon, a website that tracks the Supreme Court (Scotusblog.com) reported that the justices had requested new briefs from both sides in the case. Briefs must address the issue of jurisdiction in no more than 3,000 words and be submitted by March 10.
Citizens United, a conservative advocacy group that regularly criticizes and disparages Hillary Rodham Clinton and her former-president husband, had petitioned the high court to review a district court’s decision in January not to block a Federal Election Commission ruling. The ruling held that under campaign finance laws, broadcast ads for "Hillary: The Movie" -- a...

EDITORIAL: Campaign finance follies
David N. Bossie was a relentless investigator of the Clintons during the 1990s. More recently, he's been inspired by the example of leftist filmmaker Michael Moore.
"I saw the impact Moore was having. I realized the long-form documentary could be a powerful tool to deliver a political message," Mr. Bossie told the Los Angeles Times.
So Mr. Bossie has now released a 90-minute documentary on one of his favorite targets, the junior senator from New York. "Hillary: The Movie" features interviews with Clinton critics including Ann Coulter, Newt Gingrich and Dick Morris. "If you want to hear about the Clinton scandals of the past and present, you have it here!" proclaims the Web site of Bossie's group, Citizens United.
Given America's tradition of -- and constitutional guarantee concerning -- free political...

The group backing 'Hillary: The Movie' says promoting it is a simple free-speech issue and wants the Supreme Court to scrap disclosure rule for political ads.
WASHINGTON — Television ads promoting movies are not the normal business of politics or the courts, but they are this month because conservative activists are seeking a wide audience for "Hillary: The Movie."
David N. Bossie, who made a name for himself as a relentless investigator of the Clintons during the 1990s, has released a 90-minute documentary on the New York senator. His targets include not just her but the campaign-funding regulatory law known as McCain-Feingold, one of the signal legislative accomplishments of another presidential candidate, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).
Bossie's group is challenging the law's limits on its efforts to promote the movie and has appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court. The...

A lucky few New York conservatives gathered by invitation in Times Square to view a private screening of the New York premier of "Hillary -- The Movie." It was a private showing because a three judge panel in the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., recently ruled that it is akin more to a campaign ad and thus subject to campaign finance laws. David Bossie of Citizens United, producer of the movie, countered that it should be granted the same status as the Michael Moore film,” Fahrenheit 9/11”, which was allowed distribution in public theatres even though it, too, was a film dedicated to a negative portrayal -- during election time -- of a Republican politician, George Bush. Bossie’s argument was rejected and, once again, liberals have been able to use the Courts to their political advantage.
The film revisits most of the egregious episodes of the Clinton presidency and the strategic role Mrs. Clinton...

A U.S. District Court joined the Federal Election Commission (FEC) in a ruling Tuesday, finding that Citizens United, the group behind the productions of “Hillary: The Movie,” must disclose its donors.
Citizens United planned to promote the movie, which paints an unflattering portrait of presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), with paid advertising, which both the court and the FEC said violated the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002.
The FEC said in a release Wednesday that Citizens United had pushed the court “to block the FEC from enforcing disclosure and other provisions of campaign finance law related to the film ‘Hillary: the Movie’ and advertising intended to promote it.”
The FEC found the movie to be “electioneering communications,” which falls under the BCRA language requiring donor disclosure.
“Hillary: The Movie” features commentary from a number of pundits...

Court: Anti-Hillary Movie's a Political Ad
A conservative political group cannot broadcast its anti-Hillary Clinton movie or advertise for the film without disclosing the names of its donors, a three judge panel at the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. ruled today.
Citizens United, the group that produced Hillary: The Movie, tried to persuade the court that its sharply critical look at Sen. Hillary Clinton's career was a commercial enterprise and should not be subject to campaign finance laws. But the federal judges unanimously ruled that there was "no other interpretation" than to see the film as, in essence, a lengthy political advertisement. It's clear aim, the...

The producer of a new documentary about Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton says he will produce a similar movie about Sen. Barack Obama, should the Illinois Democrat defeat the former first lady for the party's presidential nomination.
"We already have our research staff working on Obama and, if he is the nominee, we will have a film out this summer, just like this one," said David Bossie, president of the conservative group Citizens United and executive producer of "Hillary: The Movie," which premiered last night in Georgetown.
Mr. Bossie also told The Washington Times he expects a federal court to issue its ruling today or tomorrow on a pending Federal Election Commission case that has so far prevented the airing of TV advertisements for the Clinton documentary.
"I can put it in theaters, I just can't let anybody know it's there," said Mr. Bossie, adding that he expects the case...

A legal battle over advertisements for a new documentary about Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton illustrates the folly of current campaign-finance laws, says the attorney for the producers of the film, which premieres tonight in Washington.
"Hillary: The Movie" is "a political documentary like Michael Moore or Al Gore has made," said James Bopp, who went to federal court last week to represent the movie's producers. Yet the conservative group Citizens United, which produced the Clinton film, must "go to court to get permission to advertise the film... because of McCain-Feingold," he said.
Known by the names of its chief Senate sponsors, Sen. John McCain, Arizona Republican, and Sen. Russ Feingold, Wisconsin Democrat, the 2002 law that regulates campaign advertising could require the film's producers to disclose the names of their donors and to insert a disclaimer in ads for the...

The Barack Obama campaign is calling a new right-wing Hillary hit-video that features footage of the Illinois senator "trash" and is disavowing any cooperation with the production.
Veteran anti-Clinton activist David N. Bossie has put out a web-based video trailer for his current work in progress, "Hillary," a documentary that "aims to expose the truth about her conflicts in the past and her liberal plot for the future" that leads with footage of Obama criticizing the former First Lady.
In a statement to the Huffington Post, the Obama campaign said "Of course Obama did not participate and this representation of his interview with ABC is completely misleading. There is no room in this campaign for this sort of trash."
The clip of Obama shows him criticizing Clinton for "claiming basically the entire eight years of the Clinton presidency as her own, except for the stuff that...

Just as the nasty stage of primary season has started to crescendo, Hillary Clinton may need to check over her other shoulder for a coming onslaught from Republicans.
Citizens United, a conservative group headed by David Bossie, who became famous for investigations of Whitewater and other matters in the Clinton administration, is preparing for the release of a feature-length documentary called Hillary: The Movie.
A Web site for the film promises "more than 40 in-depth interviews with experts, opinion makers, and many of the people who personally locked horns with the Clintons," including Dick Morris, Ann Coulter, Newt Gingrich and Kathleen Willey.
And the group wants to start airing television ads promoting the film right away. Today, the group will announce a lawsuit it is filing against the Federal Election Commission that will try and pave the way for Citizens United to begin running the TV ads without having to run a disclaimer or disclose...

On the table at the back of my church, a wicker basket held buttons signifying the insanity of the season. I put one of the ‘You may wish me a Merry Christmas’ pins on my coat so I could shop at stores that don’t seem to understand exactly who’s buying gifts at this time of year.
The tyranny of a small but vocal minority has completely warped this time of year into a season of litigation and constitutional confusion. Our own Department of Education, which bans Christian religious symbols in schools, needs to educate itself on exactly what the Constitution says about God and country.
A City Council member, Tony Avella, has introduced a resolution granting parity to Christians so that creches will be permitted alongside menorahs and the star and crescent in city schools. At present, the education department will not allow it, though there is no constitutional bar to this nativity display. At a press...

CITIZENS UNITED SUES FEDS OVER AD RULES
A conservative group, Citizens United, is suing to overturn the restrictions imposed on so-called issue advertisements that mention federal candidates. The rules, part of the so-called McCain-Feingold law passed in 2002, require the disclosure of all donors who help pay for such broadcast or cable ads in the 30 days before a primary and the 60 days before a general election.
Citizens United asked a three-judge panel in Washington for an injunction that would permit the political group to run television ads promoting a movie critical of Senator Clinton, without complying with the rules.
One proposed ad includes a former adviser to President Clinton, Dick Morris, describing Mrs. Clinton as "the closest thing we have in America to a European socialist."
A spokesman for the defendant in the case, the Federal Election Commission, said it does not comment on pending...

Thank you!! On behalf of Citizens United and Citizens United Foundation, I want to thank you for making 2007 a memorable and successful year for us! You are the backbone of our accomplishments and I want to take this opportunity to reflect back on a few of this year’s memorable achievements.
In May, Citizens United Foundation purchased a 5000 square foot townhouse directly next door to our current offices. This additional space provides us with the needed room to grow and expand our operations. Currently our new building houses the Citizens United production studio, viewing room, reception suite and conference room.
In November, we released Rediscovering God in America, a feature length documentary film narrated and hosted by Newt and Callista Gingrich. This inspirational film examines the role of religion in our nations’ founding and takes a tour through our history to examine the importance of faith to our founding fathers. Our...

Over 300 members were in attendance Tuesday night, November 13th, for the Washington, D.C. premiere of Citizens United’s new film, Rediscovering God in America. Led by Newt and Callista Gingrich, the film takes viewers on a walking tour of our nation’s capital. While visiting the various monuments and memorials, Speaker and Mrs. Gingrich highlight the overwhelming evidence that belief in God and a strong moral code were guiding factors in the creation of our Constitution.
The film was well received by attendees including U.S. Rep. Dan Lungren, U.S. Rep. Dan Burton, U.S. Rep. Bob Walker, U.S. Rep. Bob McEwen, as well as several religious leaders and members of the press.
Following the screening, Speaker and Mrs. Gingrich spoke briefly about what an honor it was to work with Citizens United, and their gratitude toward our production team. The screening was followed by an intimate reception in the local Georgetown area. The New York City premiere of...

Forty members of the Lincoln Club of Orange County spent a week visiting our nation’s capitol and hearing from guest speakers and media personalities as they toured the sites and met with their elected officials.
David Bossie was asked to address the group and speak about the mission of Citizens United as well as our upcoming Hillary Movie. Members of The Lincoln Club of Orange County recently made a very generous contribution of $100,000 to support the production and marketing of the film and it was a pleasure to meet with them and provide a movie update and as well as an advanced preview of the film.

Citizens United is proud to announce that we have expanded next door with a new production studio. The newly-renovated Victorian town home has made a great addition to our organization. The extra space allowed us to maximize the use of our equipment, as well as develop a studio to screen films under production. Streamlining the efficiency of our production unit enables us to have more films and impact the political process so critical to CU supporters and our country.
The convenient new area has opened up many opportunities to our production staff to make more documentaries and create production facilities with edit bays, and we look forward to the new projects ahead.

My friend Newt Gingrich and I are disgusted by the McCain-Kennedy immigration plan. Giving amnesty to thousands of illegal aliens would do nothing but encourage even more criminals and terrorists to enter our country illegally. At Citizens United, we believe in enforcing our laws and respecting those who wish to enter our country. This new plan that rewards law-breaking illegal immigrants is unacceptable and must be stopped now.
Please take a moment and view our latest commercial on immigration by clicking here. We appreciate your help on this issue and many others and would ask for your further support by making a donation.

“Today’s 5-4 decision by the Supreme Court in Federal Election Commission v. Wisconsin Right to Life is a monumental victory for free speech.
“By limiting the reach of McCain-Feingold’s ban on broadcast ads that mention Federal candidates to only those ads that are the ‘functional equivalent of express advocacy’ the Court has taken a significant step in restoring the Framer’s understanding of the First Amendment.
“The Court has rightly decided that the First Amendment prohibits Congress from banning an issue ad in the weeks preceding an election just because it refers to a candidate.
“But our work is not yet finished. Incumbent protection laws like McCain-Feingold should not be allowed to stand.
“We at Citizens United look forward to a future case in which the views expressed by Justices Scalia, Kennedy and Thomas in their concurring opinion reflect...

When will the Bush administration grow some guts? Except for its resolute -- read: stubborn -- position on Iraq, the White House seems incapable of standing up for itself and battling for its point of view. The Democratic assault on the administration over the dismissal of United States attorneys is the most fabricated and phony of scandals, but the Bush people offer only craven apologies, half-hearted defenses, and concessions. Instead, they should stand up to the Democrats and defend the conduct of their own Justice Department.
There is no question that the attorney general and the president can dismiss United States attorneys at any time and for any reason. We do not have civil servant U.S. attorneys but maintain the process of presidential appointment for a very good reason: We consider who prosecutes whom and for what to be a question of public policy that should reflect the president's priorities and objectives....

John McCain is a panderer. But that’s old news. What’s new news is the extent to which the self-declared straight-talking maverick is embracing the politics of flip-flopping.
“Immigration is probably a more powerful issue here than almost anyplace that I’ve been,” McCain said after a stop in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Indeed, immigration is so powerful that it’s causing the senator to rethink his so-called principles.
This, in itself, is troubling enough, but when you consider that immigration is so important to McCain that, together with Ted Kennedy, he sponsored a major piece of legislation on it, you wonder what principles McCain really adheres to.
Among other things, McCain-Kennedy would allow most illegal immigrants to become citizens without leaving the country.

Once again the Washington scandal machine is in full frenzy. This time the hapless Justice Department is baring the brunt. It’s over the administration’s firing of eight U.S. attorneys last year. Who’s responsible for this atrocity? The aide at Justice in charge of the firings has been run out of town. Yesterday’s Washington Post front-page headline read “firings had genesis in White House.” The Democrats vow congressional hearings to determine if (if you can imagine this) politics were involved. Even Senator Chuck Schumer of New York was able to be coaxed into saying a few words. “Just when we thought our faith could not be shaken any further” he said.
The only problem is: There was nothing wrong with firing eight U.S. attorneys. Of course the Department of Justice was inept in the way they did it, trying to conceal things that didn’t need to be concealed but the U.S....

The chance to reform a federal agency is exciting, but as Donald Rumsfeld will tell you, such Sisyphean projects are thankless.
To be sure, bureaucracy and governmental incompetence date from time immemorial, but, as Fred Thompson points out in today’s NRO (see below), the consequences are depriving Washington of the best and the brightest, who apply their talents elsewhere.
Of course, this is nothing new; it was first described in 1850, in an essay titled “What Is Seen and What Is Not Seen,” by Frederic Bastiat:
There is only one difference between a bad economist and a good one: the bad economist confines himself to the visible effect; the good economist takes into account both the effect that can be seen and those effects that must be foreseen.
Yet this difference is tremendous; for it almost always happens...

Those skeptical about the bias of Big Media probably haven't read Boston Globe columnist Jeff Jacoby. Jacoby has an exquisite radar for discerning the imbalance with which the press covers certain sensationalist stories.
My first encounter with these juxtapositions was "A Tale of Two Stories about Anti-Semitism," wherein Jacoby contrasts the little-noticed incident of a Muslim gunman's premeditated assault on a prominent Jewish institution with Mel Gibson's now-infamous drunken tirade—both of which occurred on the same day.
More recently, Jacoby pitted the firestorm about faggot-gate against the...

Following the precedent set by Citibank, Bank of America recently announced a pilot program issuing credit cards to Spanish-speaking immigrants who may not have Social Security numbers (SSN). Instead, the Bank now asks for either an ID provided by the Mexican Consulate to its citizens or an Individual Taxpayers Identification Number issued by the IRS.
The Bank says the program is not aimed at illegal immigrants, yet those without an SSN are most often here illegally. This is not a coincidence but a deliberate business decision. Indeed, according to the Wall Street Journal, which originally reported this story, the Bank’s 51 test branches in Los Angeles County are home to the largest concentration of illegals in the U.S.
In other words, Bank of America views illegal...

On Saturday, March 3, I introduced Newt Gingrich at the 34th annual Conservative Political Action Conference. The text of my speech is below.
Thank you very much.
Most of us here know Newt Gingrich as a longtime conservative voice in the mold of Ronald Reagan. As the architect of the 1994 conservative legislative platform, Contract with America, he placed the House of Representatives in Republican hands for the first time in 40 years.
I had the distinct honor and privilege of working with Speaker Gingrich while I was the Chief Investigator for the House Committee on Government Reform and Oversight, and under his leadership we conducted an unfettered investigation to hold the Clinton Administration accountable.
Our familiarity with Speaker Gingrich’s accomplishments does not diminish their magnitude: under his leadership, and standing toe to toe against the Clinton...

Lanny Breuer, one of Bill Clinton’s lawyers during the president’s impeachment trial, is a good lawyer and a shrewd pr man. So, I don’t know how he kept a straight face when he gave the following quote to the Washington Post regarding his client, Sandy Berger:
“It never ceases to amaze me how the most trivial things can be politicized. It is the height of unfairness . . . for this poor guy, who clearly made a mistake.”
“Trivial” is one way to describe the unbelievably brazen and illegal act of stealing highly classified documents from the National Archives. “Reckless” and “criminal” are more accurate.

Here is a letter I sent today to the Los Angeles Times:
It’s bad enough when a reporter misquotes you. But it’s horrible when a reporter misquotes you referring to a person, especially someone you consider a good friend.
Such is the case with Stephen Braun’s article in Sunday’s Los Angeles Times, “GOP Activists Circling Clinton’s Campaign.” Of Dick Morris, with whom I am producing a documentary, Mr. Braun wrote, “Bossie said his partner’s past ‘is an acceptable risk we’ll take because of Dick’s personal knowledge of Hillary Clinton.’”
The “acceptable risk” phrase refers to preordained attacks on Dick, the movie and me from the Clinton camp, not to Dick himself. Asked by Mr. Braun if the movie...

Americans like me, who love football almost as much we love our country, will be outraged to learn that the NFL refused to run a recruitment ad from the Border Patrol in this year’s Super Bowl program.
Said Greg Aiello, an NFL spokesman, “[T]he immigration debate is a very controversial issue, and we were sensitive to any perception we were injecting ourselves into that.”
Never mind that the upcoming NBA All Star Game and the NCAA Final Four have both accepted the ad—excuse me, “injected” themselves. Or that it’s particularly important at this time for the ad to reach a wide audience, since President Bush has promised to increase the size of the Border Patrol, from 9,000 to 12,000 agents, in fiscal 2008 alone.
The NFL’s real reluctance derives from a craven wish to avoid offense, especially...

For the second time in a week, the Washington Post editorial board is calling on Hillary to name her big-money fundraisers, or bundlers. I agree.
First, disclosure is precedent. Not only did every Democratic candidate (except John Edwards) during the 2004 campaign do it, but President Bush even listed his $100,000 "Pioneers" and $200,000 "Rangers" on his Web site.
Second, Hillary voted for the McCain-Feingold legislation that imposed sweeping disclosure requirements on organizations she disagrees with politically and that would likely...

In the last Congress, Tom Coburn (R-OK) earned a reputation as the senate’s fiscal hawk. In the 110th Congress, he’s determined to cement that status, and so has put his colleagues on notice as to his litmus tests for new legislation:
- If a bill creates or authorizes a new federal program or activity, it must not duplicate an existing program or activity without de-authorizing the existing program;
- If a bill authorizes new spending,...

Despite their past disavowals of Ronald Reagan, Rudy, Romney and McCain are suddenly casting themselves as the Gipper's heir. The Politico reports:
He's not on the ballot and he's not even alive, but the name that one hears most these days from the mouths of Republicans is Ronald Reagan.
Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani used Reagan and Lincoln as leadership models in a Chamber of Commerce speech last week in New Hampshire. But the Great Emancipator was soon left in the dust as Giuliani heaped praise on the Great Communicator. . . .
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is also using Reagan to his benefit, explaining to conservative audiences that while he hasn't always been a Reagan Republican, "neither was Reagan." And...

On Monday, the Club for Growth released its first presidential white paper. The target: Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee.
Huckabee is a wild card in the ‘08 POTUS race. He’s a smart and personable speaker (his speech at this past weekend’s National Review conference was surprisingly forceful), but is so unknown that the Club’s findings—his “ten-year economic-policy record . . . is mixed, at best”—come as somewhat of a surprise.
The paper surveys eight topics—taxes, spending, free trade, entitlement reform, regulation, school choice, political free speech and tort reform—and draws an interesting distinction between “the...

When a person says she’s “going to level with you," one assumes she’s going to disclose an uncomfortable truth, to show some leg, if you will.
In Hillaryworld, however, “leveling” carries an entirely different definition. Since she very rarely speaks from her heart, the bar for Hillary's frankness is considerably lower than it is for other unscripted human beings.
In this context, then, can we understand the senator’s frustration with President Bush’s statement that Iraq “is going to be left to his successor. I think it is the height of irresponsibility,” Hillary averred, “and I really resent it."
Hmm. Although he never mouthed these words, they apply equally well to Hillary’s husband, President Clinton. As David Bossie shows...

McClatchy Newspapers reported yesterday that in her inaugural presidential-campaign trip to Iowa, Hillary was asked “how she would handle the kind of men who rule Iran and North Korea?”
After answering, she paused and with a shrug that suggested thoughtfulness added, "What in my background equips me to deal with evil and bad men?"
The reporter speculates that the referred-to men include Bill and Newt, but it seems obvious that the alleged uber-villain is former Independent Counsel Ken Starr, whose report on the Clinton administration led to the president’s impeachment. Hillary has attacked Starr for years and coined the phrase "vast, right-wing conspiracy" on which to blame her troubles. She has an enemies list, and Starr will always be on it.
Starr is now the dean of the...
