As President Obama prepares to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel today, Citizens United announced the launch of a national ad buy telling the President to stop Iran’s march towards a nuclear weapon before it’s too late.
David N. Bossie, President of Citizens United, said, “from the first days of his presidential campaign through today, President Obama has displayed a dangerous naiveté when it comes to the threat that Iran poses to our allies in the Middle East and to the United States itself. History demonstrates that sanctions are not a cure-all for regimes bent on destroying other peaceful nations. The President must step up to this challenge before Iran has the opportunity to develop nuclear weapons."

“This bill, like many that have come before it, is a incumbent-protection power grab dressed up in the sheep’s clothing of ‘reform.’ The bureaucratic jungle that this bill would create will force groups of modest means like Citizens United to spend thousands of dollars of donor money on a battery of attorneys and accountants. This is precisely what the Supreme Court in Citizens United v FEC sought to avoid. The overly complicated regulatory scheme that Schumer and Van Hollen have proposed will chill free speech. Many grassroots organizations will not be able to afford the necessary legal advice and will be shut out of the debate entirely. As we have seen over the last twelve months, citizens across the country are coming together to oppose the out-of-control spending and rampant deficits that the Democrat-controlled Congress and White House have overseen. These are the people who the Democrats are scared of, and it is no coincidence that these are the people they aim to...

The following is a statement from Citizens United President David N. Bossie:
“Mike Castle signing on to a bill does not bipartisanship make. A Republican running for a Senate seat held by a Democrat since the 1970s has plenty of political motivation to hold hands with the Democrat leadership whenever he gets a chance.
“But more importantly, ‘bipartisan’ and ‘constitutional’ are two very different things. McCain-Feingold was bipartisan and, as the Supreme Court made very clear in January, much of that law was unconstitutional. The right to free speech is a sacred right, and legislation for the explicit purpose of restricting the ability of Americans to speak out for or against their own elected representatives is too often nothing more than an unconstitutional incumbent protection act cloaked in the guise of ‘reform.’
“As Members of Congress look at this legislation they would do well to remember the oath they swore to ‘support and defend the...

Today, Citizens United released the results of a nationwide poll conducted by McLaughlin and Associates on the public’s opinion of the Supreme Court’s recent decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission and legislative efforts reacting to the decision.
Contrary to the results of the recent Washington Post/ABC poll, the McLaughlin poll found that when informed of the consequences of the government’s attempts to regulate free speech during elections, public opinion sways markedly in favor of the Supreme Court’s ruling. Notably, 68% of surveyed likely voters reject the position taken by the government in Citizens United v. FEC that the First Amendment does not prohibit the government from banning books, films, and television broadcasts about federal candidates during elections.
Moreover, likely voters view attempts to re-impose limits on political speech by politicians such as President Barack Obama and Rep. Chris Van Hollen with a great deal of suspicion,...

Statement From David N. Bossie, President of Citizens United
“Today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision allowing Citizens United to air its documentary films and advertisements is a tremendous victory, not only for Citizens United but for every American who desires to participate in the political process.
“As our case amply demonstrates, campaign finance legislation over the last two decades has imposed, as Justice Kennedy put it, a “censorship . . . vast in its reach.” By overruling Austin v. Michigan Chamber of Commerce and striking down McCain-Feingold’s ban on so-called electioneering communications, the Supreme Court has made possible the participation in our political process that is the right of every American citizen – a right that had been severely curtailed under McCain-Feingold.
“This is a victory for Citizens United, but even more so for the First Amendment rights of all Americans. The fault line on this issue does not split liberals and conservatives or...

Today, Citizens United joined Renewing American Leadership (ReAL), an organization founded by Speaker Newt Gingrich, in an amicus curiae brief urging the Supreme Court to protect a World War I memorial constructed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Salazar v. Buono.
Despite the fact that this memorial had existed for over half a century, Frank Buono, a former employee of the Mojave National Preserve upon which the memorial was built, sued the government alleging the memorial, which consists of a Latin cross, violates the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause. The trial court and 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals took Buono’s side and ordered the Interior Department to tear down the memorial.
While the case was pending, Congress passed a law authorizing a land swap that would exchange land of equal value between the federal government and the VFW, thereby placing the memorial on private ground. Despite these Congressional measures, the courts,...

David N. Bossie released the following statement on the election of Michael Steele to the GOP Chairmanship:
“As a Republican and fellow Marylander, I want to congratulate Chairman Steele on his election. As he said today, it is indeed time for something different but we must not cede ground to anyone on the matter of our principles. I could not agree more, and I look forward to working with Chairman Steele to build and grow the Republican Party.”

We usually think of freedom of speech as involving the right of speakers to speak, whether through public addresses, in writing, or over radio and television airwaves. But the courts have recognized an additional dimension to First Amendment free speech rights: the right to listen and watch. This right takes center stage in a current challenge to the McCain-Feingold campaign-finance law and could play a role in the debate about the Fairness Doctrine.
Every circuit appeals court has acknowledged the right to listen and watch. For example, in 2003’s Rossignol v. Voorhaar, the Fourth Circuit held that the First Amendment protects the right to receive information and ideas. Similarly, in 1999’s U.S. West, Inc. v. F.C.C., the Tenth Circuit held that the two components of effective speech are a speaker and an audience, and that a restriction on either of these components is a restriction on speech. In 2005’s de la O v. Housing Authority of City of El Paso, the Fifth Circuit found...

Despite promises of reform from both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue over the last two years, the $825 billion “stimulus” package written without even a fig leaf of bipartisanship contains astronomical sums of pork barrel spending that will do nothing to create jobs for unemployed Americans.
A glance at some of the more egregious provisions of the bill reveals such job-free spending as:
1. $200 million for National Mall repairs – including grass planting
2. $6 billion to make Federal Buildings more energy efficient
3. $600 million for analog televisions
4. $300 million rebates for purchasing energy efficient appliances
Even worse, just one day after 70,000 jobs were lost, the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office announced that it would take 1.5 years for 2/3 of the $825 billion to reach the economy.
“This is not a time for political favors to be doled out at the expense of Americans who are unemployed and in need of jobs,” said David...

Reuters - The U.S. Supreme Court agreed on Friday to rule on a new challenge to the federal campaign finance law by a conservative group that wants to broadcast and promote a movie critical of Democratic Sen. Hillary Clinton.
The group, Citizens United, released the 90-minute documentary film "Hillary: The Movie" in January when the New York senator was running for president.
The legal battle over the film is continuing even though she long ago ended her presidential campaign. Clinton this week emerged as a candidate for secretary of state or another senior job in President-elect Barack Obama's administration.
Citizens United released the movie to theaters and for store sales on DVD. The group also planned to broadcast the movie on cable television video on-demand, and to pay the fee for viewers to be able to see the movie.
But that was rejected by a federal court which said under the campaign finance law the group had to disclose its donors and...

The documentary was bankrolled by Citizens United, a conservative nonprofit group run by David Bossie, a former chief investigator into Clinton's alleged involvement in the Whitewater scandal.
Bossie called the documentary "a remarkable tale of pressure from the Clinton attack machine."
Disney declined comment for this report, but Nowrasteh says in the documentary that president of Disney-ABC Television Group Anne Sweeney told him, "There is nothing that Disney or ABC has ever done that is better" than "Path to 9/11."

THE suits at Disney-owned ABC are too chicken to re-air or release on DVD their $40 million docudrama that accused Bill Clinton of squandering many chances to capture Osama bin Laden before the Twin Towers attacks.
That's the charge of John Ziegler, director of a new ABC-bashing documentary titled "Blocking 'The Path to 9/11.' " It focuses on why ABC delayed airing and severely re-edited its ambitious miniseries "The Path to 9/11" in 2006 after a furious Clinton and his cronies strong-armed the network.

Out in time for the seventh commemoration of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, a new documentary alleges that powerful politicians and a biased media effectively censored the controversial ABC miniseries “The Path To 9/11."
The new release, titled “Blocking “The Path To 9/11,'” claims that powerful Democratic figures and popular left-wing bloggers managed to scuttle an earlier version of the 2006 docudrama after spreading several baseless allegations in an attempt to get the program cut from ABC's prime time line-up.
The new film refutes those allegations using official documentation about the terror attacks and interviews with industry insiders and individuals involved in the making of the miniseries.

On the seventh anniversary of 9/11, an important movie tells the story of behind the censorship of "The Path to 9/11." Written and directed by John Ziegler and produced by David Bossie of Citizens United, "Blocking the Path to 9/11" includes deleted footage from the ABC docudrama and commentary from those involved in the making of the film.
Controversy over the docudrama erupted in 2006 after former President Bill Clinton and his liberal surrogates said the "The Path to 9/11" inaccurately portrayed Clinton-era decisions in the hunt for Osama bin Laden. Clinton's failure to capture or kill bin Laden was the first part of the film.
After lashing out at the network, Clinton and congressional Democrats successfully forced Disney and ABC to edit and censor the film. Ziegler captures the debate, including interviews with Cyrus Nowrasteh, writer of "The Path to 9/11," and 9/11 Commission Chairman Tom Keane. He documents the liberal...

US election: David Bossie's 'Hype: The Barack Obama Effect' aims to portray the Democrat as an extremist radical
9/5/08 by Paul Harris
The title of the film playing in the darkened movie theatre said it all. "Hype: The Obama Effect" was not going to be a sympathetic treatment of the Democratic candidate for the presidency.
The film's executive producer, David Bossie, urged the audience to take free DVDs of the film and show it to friends back home. He offered to help anyone wanting to put on a show in a local church or veterans hall.
"We want as many people as possible in America to see this film before election," he said. He beseeched delegates to get the word about the film. "Starting today, after you guys leave here, you will talk about the film to you friends," he said.

U students spent a portion of their Sunday afternoon handing out posters and flyers to people waiting in line to see the world premiere of "Hype: The Obama Effect," a documentary on Obama. They also talked with the movie patrons and encouraged them to sign up for volunteer work in the coming election.
"Hype" is a film made by Citizens United Productions, which has also produced movies on Hillary Clinton and Ted Kennedy. It has received attention from various media outlets and its producers define the film as a groundbreaking review of the dark, unknown story of Obama.
Will Holley, marketing director for the film, said the movie is important because it gives the real story behind Obama, instead of the glamour shots given by the media.
"We are doing mainstream media’s job that they haven’t been doing," he said. "We have got a candidate that has been unexamined. We went back and talked to senators, folks in Chicago...

The conservative group Citizens United will greet Democrats arriving for their convention this week in Denver with a new documentary skewering the party's presidential nominee, Sen. Barack Obama. "Hype: The Obama Effect," the group's latest film polemic, charges the senator is neither the unifier he claims to be, nor the political moderate who can rally the masses. But what impact, if any, can a partisan feature have, especially at a time when any documentary not directed by Michael Moore struggles to gain a wide audience? This wasn't the documentary David Bossie, president of Citizens United, expected to debut before the convention. His team spent 18 months creating "Hillary - The Movie" for the occasion. "Her campaign had a limited shelf-life," Mr. Bossie said with a chuckle. "Hype," which debuts Sunday, will also be screened during the Republican convention in Minneapolis next week. After that, it will play in...

Citizens United strikes again - one of my favorite conservative watchdog groups has produced another expose on an enemy of freedom. This time, Barack Obama.
The movie "Hype" is an exhaustive and effective piece of anti-Obama documentary research which is ahead of its time (in that not much research has been done until now!).
I'm pleased and flattered to be able to say that I was able to be present for the "World Premiere" of Hype this Sunday afternoon (the producer admitted he'd never even seen it on the big screen before then)! I must wholeheartedly thank our friend Jill Stanek (pro-life nurse and blogger -- see her incredible story!) for gaining access for me and my wife to see this!

While the official GOP "war room" critiques of Barack Obama and fellow Democrats begin Monday, some Republicans got a head start today. The premier showing of Hype: the Obama Effect, a documentary-style movie depicting the soon-to-be Democratic presidential nominee as a radical who has received undeserved acclaim, was held at Denver Pavilions Theater on the 16th Street Mall. One of those featured in the movie, former Illinois state Sen. Democrats don't like it when you say that Barack Obama won his first election in 1996 by throwing all of his opponents off the ballot on technicalities.
By clearing out the incumbent and the others in his first Democratic primary for state Senate, Mr. Obama did something that was neither illegal nor even uncommon. But Mr. Obama claims to represent something different from old-style politics -- especially old-style Chicago politics. And the senator is embarrassed enough by what he did that he misrepresents it in the prologue of his political memoir, "The Audacity of Hope."

The full-length film is called "Hype: The Obama Effect." It's produced by a national conservative group called Citizens United.
"I can't think of a more appropriate time or place to hold the world premiere of this film than in the middle of the Obama media frenzy that will be the Democratic convention," said David Bossie, executive producer of Hype and president of Citizens United. "Obama-palooza is going to be more of a rock concert than a serious political event, and that is exactly the phenomenon that Hype cuts through to get to the past, politics and policies that have propelled this freshman senator to the world stage."

Painted during the Democratic primary as weak on abortion rights, Barack Obama is now being portrayed as an extremist who literally supports killing babies.
But as a state senator, Obama repeatedly voted against that requirement and other restrictions on what opponents label "born alive" abortions. Obama says he opposed it only because of technical language that might have interfered with a woman's right to choose.
"Barack Obama is so radically pro-abortion he supports infanticide," Jill Stanek, an Illinois nurse and anti-abortion activist, wrote on her Web site.
"He needs to explain misleading people. He needs to explain why he apparently covered that up," Stanek said.

In Hollywood docudramas, when the phrase "miscarriage of justice" is employed, it usually applies to the film's subject, not its creators.
But a new documentary called "Blocking the Path to 9/11," to be given a screening tonight, makes the case that former President Bill Clinton and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton have pressured television and studio executives into quashing the DVD release of ABC's 2006 miniseries “The Path to 9/11." The privately financed documentary argues that the Clintons, who decried the original miniseries as a right-wing hatchet job, are out to salvage their political influence and legacy at the expense of free expression.
The documentary, which will be shown to a sold-out audience at the Skirball Center, was produced by former KFI-AM talk show host John Ziegler and Citizens United, a Washington, D.C.-based conservative political group that emphasizes the importance of strong families, limited...

Washington, D.C. — As it prepares to release its hard-hitting political documentary, Hillary: The Movie, Citizens United, a grassroots advocacy organization, led by election law attorney James Bopp, Jr., today filed suit against the Federal Election Commission, arguing that issue-oriented television ads are protected by the First Amendment and should not be subject to disclosure requirements under McCain-Feingold campaign finance law.
At issue are sections of the 2002 Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (“McCain-Feingold”) that imposed a blackout period before elections on television advertisements that mentioned the name of a federal candidate -- “electioneering communications.” Earlier this year, the United States Supreme Court, in Federal Election Commission vs. Wisconsin Right to Life, ruled that groups could not be prohibited from running “genuine issue ads,” during the blackout period, but the FEC has insisted that such groups must still...

Washington, D.C. — Citizens United and its president, David Bossie, today issued the following statement:
“Citizens United (CU), and its President David Bossie, have retained counsel to pursue claims against CNN for reporting in a November 28th CNN show called Broken Government – ‘Campaign Killers,’ hosted by Campbell Brown, that David Bossie and CU were part of a ‘fringe militia.’ CU through counsel will seek a formal apology and public retraction of those statements, and for calling Bossie a ‘dirty trickster.’ If no retraction is forthcoming, CU will then bring legal action to hold CNN accountable for these and other misrepresented facts. These baseless allegations were a disservice to CU and its 500,000 members, CNN and its audience, and to general principles of responsible, fact-based journalism.”

Washington, D.C.—Citizens United, a prominent conservative grassroots advocacy organization with members throughout the state of Maryland, is unveiling a major television advertisement campaign condemning Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley's (D) proposed tax hike. WASHINGTON, DC— On Friday, March 23, Citizens United, a conservative advocacy organization, filed an amicus brief asking the Supreme Court to strike down a key provision of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law, which bans corporations from sponsoring TV and radio ads that refer to a federal candidate in the weeks preceding an election.
Noting that the First Amendment was “ratified . . . to keep Congress’s hands off the political process,” the brief accuses the Federal Election Commission and congressional supporters of the ban of having “relegated [the Amendment’s] freedoms of speech, press, assembly, and petition to near obscurity in their briefs.”
“Neither brief contains quotes from, or even paraphrases, the First Amendment text, and each dispenses completely with any analysis based upon that text—notwithstanding this Court’s salutary rule of construction that ‘every word of...
